Has anybody heard the first solo album by the Manics-frontman, yet?

The single is OK, but far too much like recent Manics to make it worth doing as a solo track..Why do people DO that? Record solo stuff the same as their band stuff?! The drums could be Shaun Moore, the keyboards are the same as MSP sounds…

Pointless.

If the only issue is that he gets to write more lyrics, bring it on cos Wire is a terrible lyricist.

I used to worship at the feet of JDB but I can’t get excited about this. Apparently the next MSP album will be “rock n roll” but if I had a quid for every band I like that has promised their next album will be a return to the rockier sound of their earlier days, I would be able to pay some of them to go back into the studio and not come out til they had recorded the album they promised in the first place!

Personally, I think the Manics should call it a day as a collective. They’ve already lost it a bit and have got to the New Order (since Technique) stage of producing an album with a couple of decent songs and some quite embarassing filler. Know Your Enemy had it’s moments, but was about 6 or 7 songs too long and I agree that Wire’s lyrics were awful at times.

I don’t mind JDB’s new single though.

Spot on Igor.

And just for the record I have now remembered how to spell SEAN Moore’s name correctly. Apologies to Sean and his family for the “Shaun” mix up.

the single has grown on me a bit. i think i’ll buy the album because, well, basically it’s james dean bradfield. i was quite content listening to the single the other day with all the handclaps and “sha-la-la’s” and it was all very nice but then this thought popped into my head like “hold on, this is the man who wrote the music for the holy bible”. it didn’t seem as good in comparison ;). I’m glad that this is a solo thing though as it could have so easily ended up being the next manics album. just with better lyrics. but still nothing great.

now, wires solo album… that really does sound scary.

also, has anyone else seen the video to james’s single? it’s a bit odd innit.

personally i can’t wait for the sean moore experience to put out their concept album about the world being over-run by beings from the planet drumklon. on ice.

From the live bootleg and the acoustic sessions i’ve heard and the reviews i’ve read i think it’ll be a decent enough pop/rock album and more consistant than the last few MSP albums.JDB’s lyrics fall into the ballad territory a little but it’s still preferable than some of the shite Nicky has written in the last few years.

Are the acoustic sessions available somewhere as mp3-Files? I only heard/saw “émigré” on youtube.com and I thought it was beautiful.

After having listened to it for a while now I really love it, but the best thing are the b-sides! Seriously, there is some a-side material on there. “I Never Wanted Sunshine”, “Lost Again” and especially “Don’t Look Back” should at least have been on the album.

From “The Great Western” my favourites are “Émigré”, “That’s No Way To Tell A Lie” and the Brel cover “To See A Friend In Tears”. A great album! What a songwriter!

The manics should of split up back in 94/95 when Richey went misiing even if they did a joydivision/neworder and reformed under a different name, the band dont deserve the name of the manics without edwards, and im really not nito much of the newer stuff although i must say i enjoy this JDB album slightly.

I don’t agree, I think it’s time there was a re-appraisal of Everything Must Go. Classic album.

I agree. I think they SHOULD have carried on, no question, but under a different name. After all, the album/ song said EVERYTHING Must Go, but the name remained, so they kinda didn’t really follow that concept through to its conclusion, did they?

they have said they thought about it but there was no closure on the Richey situation so they didn’t. If he had been proved dead they definately would have changed the name. I’m glad they didn’t personally - i think that would have been MORE of a cop-out, trying to erase their past like it never happened. :)

the great western has really grown on me with repeated listening. i think it’s the best quote unquote “manics” output since everything must go. as to all this about the manics splitting / renaming after richey / not carrying on or whatever i believe we’ve been over this so many times that i can’t be arsed to comment. i’m glad they carried on, they’ll never EVER get back to how good they once were but, well, i can’t be bothered going over all this again.

That about sums it up, yes. Notice that only about ten percent of the people that listened to the first MySpace track went on to listen to the other two. And I didn’t listen all the way through, so I’m not even a part of that statistic (Like probably many others).

Yeah those B-sides are really good,i hope the B-sides to An English Gentleman are of the same quality.

JDB said the next MSP album will be like Appetite For Destruction part two and Nicky said it was a cross between Generation Terrorists and Everything Must Go.It’ll probably sound nothing like those albums and Nicky also said the last few MSP albums were their wasteland years.

Everything Must Go is being re-released with bonus live tracks,a second CD with unreleased songs, demo’s and B-sides and a DVD.
