The thing with Wire is (I believe - feel free to disagree) that when Richey was around Nick could take his time and write mini masterpieces (This Is Yesterday, La Tristesse) but stretched over an album i think he struggles a bit.

You may well be right.

My theory has always been that either when he was writing in the early days he was trying to outdo Richey (in a friendly way of course). By that I mean I think he’d read something that Richey had written and think “Fuck, I’ve gotta compete with that!?” Then come up with something amazing, like ‘This Is Yesterday’.

Either that or Richey simply ‘helped’ him a hell of a lot with his ideas, arrangments etc and added a few lines here and there.

Wire’s early lyrical style was very similar to Richey’s.

Can’t goddamn wait!

Do you think they’ll do the same with This Is My truth? If you look at their myspace and read the story (dunno who wrote it) but it says that This Is my truth is their weakest album or words to that effect…

and purely by coincidence, that is EXACTLY what it says on the card here! You are today’s winner, would you like the teasmade or the his-n-hers matching embroidered dressing gowns…?
