I noticed that THERAPY? play regulary in northern europa from belgium to Norway.
So, I can think they’ve still their own popularity and they ought to play in front of a few thousand people in gigs or festivals.
I come from France and I promise you they knew a very big success for Troublegum and Infernal Love. A this while, we have 3 excellent rock tv programs which ones they have been invited to play.
Since Semi-Detached, informations about T? were in musical specialised newspapers, for a concert ot them or a new record, or a brief interview.
Another problem, during this last 10 years, we haven’t got rock tv program anymore here in France, just the news R ‘n B videos all the night. Since the begining of the year , there’s one rock TV program called Taratata. It’s very cool. T? played there 10 years ago.
If, all of us, write to the Taratata staff, maybe… something will happen.
This link is about the tv show I saw them http://www.taratata.net/artistes/dates/28d10d1994.htm

To contact : taratata@airprod.com
For my opinion, it’s a problem from the medias before.

me (rocking roxy sitting at robby´s pc) thinks, that the time between infernal love and semi detached was to long and their people forgot about them.

i remember when sd came out, i was running through school telling everybody who didn´t want to hear it “they are back, they are back”…and everybody was asking “what they are still alive?” and this were all people who got their early albums…but had forgotten about T? in the meanwhile :(

Its interesting to read how people were affected when a certain album was released.

When I was living on the Isle of Wight no one really heard of Troublegum what so ever.

I didn’t know of the band till 1995/96 :(

Semi detached had resonable press… i remember them on radio 1 quite a few times and i heard half of SD on some radio show before it came out. They did some TV stuff like TFI Friday, and also did ozfest when Korn dropped out. It was when A&M dispeared that it became hard… no singles so no radio play and Ark21 didn’t really do too much promotion for the next few albums, also the music industry changed and Rock just wasn’t in for a few years. They just really needed to be seen and heard alot after SD and apart from gigs it didn’t happen, which is the labels fault and management… so they got lost a bit and forgotten which is a shame. The Gigs on the HA tour were quite small…but it seemed on Nane they played bigger places so that was cool.

Um one of their biggest hits did this. “going nowhere, going nowhere going nowhere” etc, I like the single line choruses as long as the verses are complex enough, they work well live becuase people who dont know the songs can pick up the chorus and sing along.

True.

But I prefer songs like Stop it your killing me.

With a completely different bit in the middle, in Stop it… case, it’s the “I’m leaving on a train thats 6 miles down..”

If T? went back to doing that I’d be a very, very happy chap! :)

Unfortunately, you’re wright Robby, I remember the same kind of context.
However it’s really curious because there is just 2 years between the both albums. There are any bands who don’t give any life sign before 4 or 5 years and they’re able to out a new record and keep the same success.

Well, THERAPY are still alive and still play.

Do you email to festival staff in your country just to ask a T? venue ? I do it.
Do you write to musical tv program in your channel ? I do it too.

The more we shall be to ask for them, the better it will be.

I remember watching this show, it was amazing, Sting used to look the band playing between two chorus, he looked like frightened, it had to go too fast for him, but it was good, very very fun.

How much do I want to see that show with Sting!

Oh and I think there are two main reasons for T? fall from mainstream popularity: A+M folding, and the gap between IL and SD.

However, I think this is a good thing, coz we would have never got SPYF if this had not happened.

Yes, and we know how much of a great career move that was! Commercial suicide but it was/is a great album. One of my faves and the live shows at the time were scarily good! ;)

Title: Times

To me Therapy? losing their ‘big audience’ was a sign of the times. I remember over here (n ireland) in 1991-1994 every twat in school was into metal and grunge and etc then the next year or so it was all taboo and you where looked upon as a fucking werewolf if you showed any sign of dressing like a ‘rocker’ (or whatever). I remember T? must have been big enough here that you could buy their T shirts in ‘virgin megastore’ but a few years after it was all forgotten and everyone one liked Scooter! Haha.
Simple as that

From 1992 to 95, Therapy? were a popular band. Headlining tours, hard hitting singles and a large following to match, not forgetting they were nominated for the Mercury prize for Troublegum.

For some reason, after a two year crack at America and making Semi - Detacthed, they lost most of their core following to Britpop and Nu-metal and A&M went under. Over the years since, they recieved little mainstream press compared to the days of Screamager and Ark21 did not have the budget to put them on high level festivals like Reading and Ozzfest.

At the end of the day, we could spend hours over this debate. But like most of you that have contributed to this thread, I’m glad and proud to see them around.
