Electronic drums - Roland

Anyone know much about these?

I’m seriously considering getting myself a Roland electric kit, probably the TD-20S model. Problem is that it costs about 3500 euros, and thats before the snare stand, hi-hat stand and kick pedal.

It’s the best out there at the moment (I think?), but is there a cheaper alternative that’s pretty similar? How about the TD-10 model? Any good?

I doubt I’ll be playing live with it so it will be a practice/recording kit. I don’t wanna upset the neighbours so I’m putting my regular kit away :p

is this that bunch of flimsy pads with rubber cymbals passing itself off as a drumkit? They sound pretty good in that you can have different sounds which means more ideas to play about with but they don’t feel very good to play at all to me.

I’ve had it set up for a couple of weeks, but am still trying to figure out the best set-up as I haven’t had a chance to play it a lot. I’ll need to get a small practise amp, as the kit doesn’t sound great through headphones.

I’m not too happy with the cymbal sounds - they don’t sound particularly loud and seem to get “lost” when playing. I’ve also got a double-bass pedal, which I’ve never played before, so I’m still trying to get used to it.

Question about the double pedal - how do the two beaters look when NOT in use? Side-by-side eachother, or one closer to the drum skin than the other? I’m not sure how much to tension them.

So, the jury is still out at the moment. Especially considering the money this thing cost. I should have a better idea in a few months time.

You should be able to go into the “brain” and change the volume of the cymbal pads by going to edit(not sure which you have but most of the Roland “brains” work the same)and hit the cymbal pad and there should be a + or -.Hit the pad and hit the + button up til it reaches a louder volume.usually around 13 to 16 should be the number(or maybe higher). You can control all your individual pad volumes that way.

As far as the beaters on the pedals they should be as close as possible together that way both feet are getting the same throw from both beaters.

hope this helps.
