i shaln’t bore you with my usual list of guitarists as they’re all quite obvious…

but under-rated ones i’d say are matt bellamy from muse, robert smith from the cure (yes, he does more than sing and wear make-up) and chad from mansun.

jeff waters from Annihilator! The only guitarist who takes classical and puts it into riffs that are powerful and sing-alongable!

Also Dave Mustaine and Dimebag -thats my 3! :)

Zakk Wylde (His style ain’t my cup of tea, but you have to take your hat off to his technical ability)
Johnny Marr

There’s plenty more but I always go blank when I get asked this question.

If he does mean Adrian Smith, then he’s a better guitarist than Dave Murray. Poser? Lol, I always thought of him as the quiet one. Janick Gers is the poser one.

My old old video recorder used to have separate audio settings (I think for hard of hearing/foreign languages and what have you. It wasn’t proper left/right/centre slecetion). Anyway, one the Raising Hell video (I think), you could set it either listen to the whole band, or _Just_ Janick Gers. He might as well not have been there. He was throwing himself around so much onstage, there were more missed notes than accurate ones. Lots of dead strings, poor timing, and screwed up melodies.

Nah, just messin’… there are too many to mention, but Townsend and Weller are among the top, as well as Frusciante.

But keep in mind: a guitar player is nothing, I repeat NOTHING without a proper BASSSSS player.

*twists around, grabs bass and turns the volume up to 11 (just ‘cause I can) and belts out “Wynona’sBigBrownBeaver”. Waits for the audience to start clapping…*

Gotta agree on this one. Adrian Smith was always the best Maiden guitarist.

I can see why Gers wants to make the live show more of a spectacle than concentrating on always playing note-perfect, but sometimes he really does make an arse of it, doesn’t he?

:) It is cool looking when he ‘strums’ the guitar by whipping it with his lead. But when you isolate the sound and all you hear is ‘clack clack, clack… clack’, you wonder if it’s worth the showmanship. ;)

Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, Jimmy Page, Paco de Lucia, and many more. There are too many good (and bad) guitarists. Andy is great and does some very good things often, but he sometimes can srew up on stage as well. The best ever, probably was Django Reinhart.

Too be honest i really do like coxon, he is very underrated. When he wants he comes out with some very complicated stuff but just doesn’t show it very oftern. And the sounds and “Anti guitar playing” he came out with on “Blur” and “13” as well as live i was very impressed with. Not a traditional widdler, but a hell of a lot more interesting than most standard guitarists. I guess he comes under a guilty pleasure:)

I do agree with you on The Edge… he is pretty shit house, if he didn’t have his delay unit he would be nothing!
