I have digging out all my earache records releases. I must get some Godflesh at one point..are they any good?

I have two Godflesh albums, Pure and Songs of Love and Hate…the second of those two is really good (the production is a bit rubbish on Pure). Heavy industrial stuff. Gav’s your man for more info as I got SoL&H off him and I think he has more albums by them. Streetcleaner is supposed to be a classic, but I ain’t got it.

Tactical Godflesh CD-buying - a much underrated talent.

I really like Godflesh! Really Amazing sounding band.

‘Streetcleaner’ is their harshest sounding… very heavy indeed!
‘Us and Them’ has a real drum and bass feel to it (whilst being really heavy)
‘Songs of Love & Hate’ is probably my fav one
‘Hymns’ - if you have heard any Jesu - this is probably the bridging album between the heavy style of Godflesh and what he is doing now.

I have yet to purchase Pure! might have a look on ebay ;)

[edit] They are probably deserving of having their own thread :)

The thread split is fair enough - we’d turned a literature thread into a music thread :)

I might get Streecleaner now I’ve been remnided of Godflesh. You should check out Jesu as well Si (Justin Broadrick’s band) - good stuff.

Earache had some quality bands on the roster back in the mid 90’s!

Godflesh, Carcass, Fudge Tunnel, Napalm Death, Pitchshifter, At The Gates, Entombed, Misery Loves Co…

It was interesting to read in that book i was talking about that Earache had first dibs on most of the bands that turned up on Roadrunner like Sepultura and Fear Factory but decided not to sign them. The head of Earache said in hindsight they should have just singed everyone and RoadRunner wouold never of excisted.

But they did have a really good catalogue..shame that later on they suddenly went all techno on us. I will check out Jesu..I might be able to nab my friends copy as I’m sure he bought it and hated it so he might just give me it like he did with the first Carcass album.

…and not forgetting the one-off grindcore project Cliff Richard recorded under the pseudonym “Fisterboy”, around 1993, I believe it was.

Well for $4 from amazon USA I have ordered “In All Languages” which is the 2cd compliation. I can’t say if it has a good collection of their songs or not..so I just took a gamble.

Useless Carcass fact of the day: I just bought Venom’s recent ‘Metal Black’ album (it was cheap), and Mike Hickey plays on it - he played on the Heartwork tour (after Amott left and before Regedas joined) :)
