So whose the best songwriter?

Out of those three, whose the best songwriter in your opinion.

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Ginger and James Dean Bradfield are my two favourite songwriters of all time. But I went for Ginger in the end because he hasn’t written a bad song yet and he’s simply beyond prolific.

Andy is great at what he does but he’s nowhere near as consistent. There are at least two songs of filler on every album Therapy? in my opinion.

Simple for me… Andy

I just can’t stand JDB, and don’t think what he does is SO brilliant, and I don’t really like Ginger either

I would have voted for Mike Patton as well, but since he isn’t in the poll, i’ve voted for Andy :)

Well, you Belgian people won’t have the chance to have Johnny as a new compatriot: His request for being a belgian citizen (and to pay less taxes than in France :D ) was refused apparently .So no chance for me to tease you with him :p and no trade possible with Arno so ;).But thank you for letting Jacques Brel come in our country

@Dennis : Edith is a kind of Myth in France, she was also an influence for the French Alternative Rock scene of the 80’s : Les Garçons Bouchers,La Mano Negra,Pigalle,Happy Drivers, etc…

Thats a cool poll!

I’ve gone for Ginger only because the last T? album and the last Manics album seem eager to please but fail. Ginge is still sticking to what he knows best and making great tunes. Still, the next Manics album COULD be genius and change my mind! :p

I love all three of these guys, but Ginger’s stuff - while still good to listen to now and then - just doesn’t hold up so well, IMO.

It’s really between Andy and JDB and while I love Therapy? even more than the manics and I think Andy is a fantastic songwriter I think I have to give the edge to JDB. He’s so incredibly versatile and he manages to come up with strong melodies to even the most absurd lyrics by Nicky Wire.

BTW, sorry about the typo in the thread title. I was really tired when I wrote that. :o

Well I guess I would go for Andy. The manics I only ever felt did one great album and two quite good ones even though he is probably the best musician out of the three of them. Wildhearts and Ginger are a strange one, I thought some of the wildhearts was good but still didn’t see what the fuss was about..and gingers solo stuff I just haven’t enjoyed at all.

Mr Patton I can see the attraction in.. i don’t mind the odd tune of his;) Spaceball 1 check out the patton thread if you wish to rave about him.

Boring? no…impossible,a dude like him who used to sing with passion and blood in his voice cannot be boring.

Next time we’ll meet,I’ll sing you ” Dans le port d’Amsterdam” or “Ne me quitte pas” in a better (crazier?) way than him :D.

@Dennis :yeah not flatterous for us that song from Mrs Johnny Depp…Les Thugs and Metal Urbain were a better choice ;)

James’ first lyric wasn’t until several albums later, but James (together with Sean) write the music, or certainly that’s how it was at the time.

Air?! Good god no! You can keep them, thanks!

*sticks to his Vanessa Paradis*
