What do people think of their decision to play the whole of their new album in full and in sequence on their current tour…?
Cool idea or self-indulgence?

It’s boring.
But that’s just my opinion of course :o

Its a great show. The whole new album in its order and four other classics. Great stage show, but doesn’t hold a candle to their Dance of Death stage set.

Not only could it be shit - it *is* shit. Wasted about 50 on a pile of boring pseudo progressive wank (the new album) and rather uninspired sounding classics. Note to Bruce - just because I bought the album doesn’t mean I want to hear every coma inducing note of it.
Mind you, it wasn’t all bad. Lauren Harris has a lovely bum neatly tucked into leather pants. And I unexpectedly ran into Demia’s bass player and had a bit of a chat with him.

Personally, I think this fad of playing the whole of an album in order is just so dull.
Patr of the thrill of a live gig is (or was before the internet and setlist threads!) not knowing quite was song is coming next.
In some cases - such as the Manics’ Holy Bible - where the album is very much at odds with what the band is doing now, and it is a one-off, I can see the value of revisiting a certain moment in a band’s career, but for a band to tour an album and play the whole damn thing in order and neglect a huge (and hugely popular) back catalogue is just kinda selfish.
So you’re bored of playing the same songs - what about the fans who have never seen you before? And I bet you don’t get bored of living off the money of those same songs that still sell well as a nice tidy back catalogue..?

I’ll see em in Glasgow this Friday. Not sure about the whole “Let’s play the new album in order” thingy.
Personally i’d love to see a greatest hits type show with a couple of new songs thrown in.

I think it is all about striking a good balance…and playing all of your new stuff and hardly any old stuff is NOT striking a balance!

well i’d be happy to go see a band play their new album in its entirety, on account of the fact i’ve already seen/heard the old stuff live. T? for example, i could quite happily go see ‘em play “OCFA” in its entirety and fuck the old stuff.

Yeah but that only works for bands that you have seen before, and also assumes that last time you saw them they did indeed play all the “hits” and not just whatever dull album they had just released then.
If I saw Therapy? and all they played was OCFA, I’d never wanna see them again ever.

I’m with Dennis on that one. Don’t think T? could pull off playing the entire album and get away with it. Think you’ll need to be an arena band and T? will never go to that level.

hmmm…you’ve got a point old son…I just like gigs to have a theme of some kind, rather than “yes we’re again with the same old stuff and a couple of new ones.”
I may be wrong but i read somewhere that Maidens set at Reading was all early stuff, which i thought, if that was indeed the case, was pretty fucking cool. As was Metallica’s decision to perform “master of puppers” in its entireity.

Maiden’s set at Reading was all stuff off the first four albums, I think, which was really odd seeing as Dickinson wasn’t on the first two, but yeah, something like that is more interesting - I am all for throwing in a load of lesser-played tracks, I just think a whole album in the same order is already blunted by overfamiliarity.
Each to their own eh?

depends on the album i guess. For example i’d die and go to heaven if Bob Dylan was to perform “blonde on blonde” in its entirety. :)

*ducks*
But yeah, I guess it does depend on the album. I’d have loved to have heard the Manics do the Holy Bible all the way through, so I guess I just undid all my arguments of the last 6 hours…d’oh!

nothing against playing a lot of new songs, or maybe an entire new album…but not all after each other.
MAIDEN should have startet with a old song, to get the audience immediately into action..then maybe 1 or 2 new songs, then again something old…and so on…
the way they did it, it was getting boring very quickly,…and so i wished i could push the “FF”-button somewhere

What a great show last night.
MAIDEN were in top form! As always!
Loved hearing all the new album live. And a decent selection of classics to round off the whole thing.
TRIVIUM were a bit “mehhh!”
Good sound! they sounded really tight.
But they just don’t cut it for me.
Maybe with a little time.
I think with their new album they’re trying too hard to sound accessable

My problem with Trivium is exactly that - they are trying too hard. It all sounds forced and fake to me, nothing coming from the spleen, or the heart.
