Back in 2004 we got ‘One Cure Fits All’ and in 2006 we got ‘Troublegum’?
Do you think OCFA would of sold as much in that year as much as Troublegum did? And visa-versa with Troublegum in 2006…???

if we are talking about 1994 ( :D ) than i would say and yes, and no
yes, because OCFA is an excellent album full of mega songs…
and no, because everything has its own time and fuck knows what would have had happened.
my point is these albums are probably equal but not the same

Interesting idea. I think a great song is a great song and though fashion will go some way to dictating its placement in our culture, Troublegum would make T? big again if it came out now.

I think both albums would struggle nowadays because rock music isn’t appreciated as much as back in ‘94.

Like look at the crap out there that is deemed great rock and actually hits the charts - Kaiser Chiefs and all those other bands that sound just like them.

T? probably wouldn’t get any airplay on MTV like back then either - just full of Hip Hop, Rap and RNB (does anybody understand the bloody difference between these 3 genres???).

When Troublegum came out you had plenty of decent Rockers hitting the charts - I am afraid that we live in sad times and just have to face the fact that it has all gone underground again, which isn’t bad, but will never spell commercial success.

Rant over…

Still, interesting thought - the tracks on both albums are commercially geared.

If the record company promoted them more, then i think T? could do well again. Dopamine Seratonin Adrenalin is as good as anything on Troublegum and i think a wider audience could get into it.

I think the climate of rock now is really sad. All these rubbish indie bands that are trying to sound EXACTLY like the 60’s is depressing!

But fear not - thanks to Britrock and bands like T?, Skunk Anansie, Radiator, Cyclefly, Wildhearts etc it WILL come back around again!

Anyone want to start a britrock type band with me? :p
we will conquer the World Mwha-ha-ha haa!

To be honest I think we missed the boat on the Britih Rock revival.

When The Darkness hit it big I expected a scene of clones (Hurricane Party, Towers Of London, Tokyo Dragons anyone?) and a major Wildhearts revival (As it was them who got them their big break by taking them on tour.) Sadly the general pubic didn’t respond as they should have done and the whole thing vanished without a trace - Had OCFA come out during my forecasted New Wave Of Nineties Britrock (NWONB) It would have been the return of Therapy? to the level of exposure and popular success they enjoyed in the mid-nineties.

Still - There’s always Lostprophets. :D

Lostprofits - pah. They can’t hold a candle to most of the stuff of the 90’s. Senser, like T? and Wildhearts, should’ve been hyped more.

Well, back in 1994 when “Troublegum” was released, MTV would play all kinds of music, including Therapy? videos. I believe that increased record sales and got them lots of new fans who had never heard about the band before. Nowadays MTV is all about that R’n’B / Hip Hop garbage and in my home country kids watching MTV and local music video channels haven’t heard Therapy?. So I don’t think TG would be as big a success as it was back then if it was released now. And that’s a damn shame.

Don’t know about OCFA though. I think it requires intensive listening before it grows on you. Troublegum is “easier”.

Interesting subject.

I believe that Troublegum, when released now won’t do much. A bit better than OCFA, but that’s about it - it’d rely on word of mouth even moreso than OCFA does now, as Therapy? doesn’t have the reputation of the Troublegum release to propell it’s fame.

That brings me to OCFA released in 1994.. I wonder if people would notice the sudden growth of musicianship? In this parallel universe though, I doubt OCFA would make it big, and in turn make Therapy? big big! Quite simply, Troublegum hit the spot, it had a niche of appreciators there that couldn’t get much from most other music at the time. OCFA’s songs wouldn’t be as popular for simple reasons, for one the content of OCFA is much more mature (I guess that makes sense, but in the parallel universe it’s a giant mystery!). Perhaps there are also other consequences of this release, such as IL being a bigger surprise, but perhaps not catching as much ear.. drummers leaving, the band dying before the masterful (?) Troublegum release in 2006.. But I’ll try not to speculate too much on that, and leave it to the big timeline experts, ok?
