First Therapy? experience?

#

Started by babygum

What was everyones first experience of Therapy?

Mine was when I was about 7 or 8 years old and my uncle used to come round and babysit us, one night he brought a CD and played the first track, me and my brother found the line “Time to die” hillarious as we shot each other with the HI FI remote… how sad eh… ;)

That album is still my favourite to date!

Remember Fanning had them on for an hour for the release of Infernal Love and they broadcast T? live playing Stories on the Late Late Show that night. Think i have it on video some where, no maybe not.

I saw both Knives & Stories from the Late Late Show but have neither on video, unfortunately. I taped Stories from the radio because Fanning played it simutaneously as they performed it on tv (like you said King_Hill). The glorious days of T? on the mainstay of Irish television entertainment, eh? What chance of it happening again!?

Who knows?, current host (Pat Kenny) had the boys on his old show back in ‘98, doing Black Eye Purple Sky. That one I did record on video and is on youtube somewhere.

Bought troublegum, loved it, bought nurse, liked it, loved it about 3 years later.

Spent an enormous amount of time and money trying to get a hold of semi-detached in the US, finally got a copy through amazon.

I have yet to see them live though. :(

Mine was in 94. I was bored of heavy metal and read the RAW (remember that mag?!) review of T’gum and that sparked my interest so i went and bought it in the summer of 94 when i was 15. Life-changing! :)

I taped that one alright, thik it was Kenny Live on a sathurday. Saw the lads play a couple of nights before as they were doing a few gigs around Ireland and Andy slagged him off calling him a wanker, all in good fun mind. Great days.

i had a friend who was fan since babyteeth went out, he went to every belgian concerts, he made me listen the stuff but i didn’t enjoyed it that much (maybe not ready for such a style). A bit later, he made me listen nurse and from then, i really liked it. i loved troublegum and that’s when the lovestory began.
i was afraid anyway with infernal love, an album that i think, i’ll never like.

from this date, infernal love is still the worst album they made imo. MTV boost could have killed the band, hopefully, they succeed to get out of this and now they are used to feed me with great stuffs.

I saw a preview of the band in the run up to Donnington ‘94 on MTV’s Headbangers ball. They featured the Troublegum stuff and at that time, the band had a lot of exposure on MTV.

I too recorded the 94 Brixton Academy gig and very shorly after this I bought tickets to see them.

Really though I discovered the band by coincidence by what a moment it was, after all I was only 15.

They were playin a rough version Punishment Kiss off Babyteeth album, Fife had a battered old gold drumkit with tape all over it, Andy didnt av his trademark beard and Micheal was wearin a fuckin flowery dress and 18 hole cherryred dock martin boots…Hahaha..I thought ‘Who the fuck are these guys, Brilliant!! from that moment i loved Therapy?

First album I got was Nurse then found vinyl versions of Babyteeth (on red vinyl)and Pleasuredeath in a shop in Scunthorpe, then got Hats off to the Insane e.p. with early versions of Turn and Screamager - Fuckin Class!!!
Then troublegum n all the rest blah blah blah.
Album I really want is Semi Detached - I have it as a Limited Addition 45” Vinyl box set. Each 45 has 2 songs so about 6 records in all. Cool. Trouble is av never played them so dont know any of the fuckin songs.. haha

Living in Mid Wales meant that i didnt get to see them til the semi detatched tour in 98 at Wolverhampton.

Although my next one was at Aberystwyth Uni, and I’m eternally grateful they visited my small part of the world. I even saw the tourbus driving through my small hoemtown on the afternoon before gig. Excellent!

Then I saw Turn several times on that same channel. The big bang for me was Screamager when I heard it from Finnish radio at fresh. Then it was rolling on MTV nonstop.
