25 rarest tracks - heres my list…

#

Started by Ian Hayllar

I had a look at the list again that Sister put up in a previous thread and I reckon that the 25 rarest songs are as follows. Its not a list of the rarest physical records, as there are the white label test pressings of the Pleasure Death 4tk single, Teethgrinder 3 tk etc, that are rarer than rocking horse shit as they only made 10 each time, as well as normal records such as the Meat Abstract 7” of which there were only 1000 legal copies made (and 500 bootlegs). I am not knocking Sisters list in any way – top marks for a pretty comprehensive list ! I have also explained a bit about ones I left out from Sisters list at the bottom. Please note that there are no bootlegs on the list, so tracks like Next to You which appears with Invisible Sun on a rather nice looking 7” (only 400 made) aren’t included. Feel free to add your comments or corrections, and especially if any of the band or ex-A&M’rs know roughly how many of each promo on the list was sent out.

As a final comment, I am nearing the end of finishing the definitive discography, which includes every release worldwide, all promos put out by T?’s various record companies round the world, all compilation appearances, cat numbers, quantities released, pictures, sleeve notes etc. Its been a big headache sorting it out all out, but if anyone would like a copy when it is finished please let me know.

Anyway heres the list!

150 copies exist

5. MULTIFUCK
Meat Abstract demo cassette
150 copies exist

6. SWT

150 copies exist
(This time, I have omitted Meat Abstract, as I think I am right in saying that both this version and Punishment Kiss were the ones that appeared on the single and Babyteeth…Mikehell, is this true?)

(This is a different remix than the 2 that appear on the Teethgrinder 12”)

25. Totally Random Man (Mark Goodier Session for BBC Radio1)

The ones that I left out include:

Vicar in a tutu / Come and Die / Invisible Sun / Iron Man
All of these are still available on the relevant compilations so they arent really rare

Rehab (Andys guest appearance with ManChild)
Single still available in the shops and on order.

Jonestown Mind (?)
A bit of a mystery this one. I remember a Jonestown Mind remix of one song, but I cant remember where!!! I think it was Innocent X…any help ????

Punishment Kiss (demo)
The version that is on Meat Abstract is the same one that is on Babyteeth and not a demo version.

Reality (?)
Don’t know what this is !

Teethgrinder (Unsane and TeeHee dub mixes)
Only just outside the Top 25. Not many were made of these and Im holding onto my copy tightly.

Innocent X (Special remix)
Split single with Orbital / Also on Volume CD “Sharks patrol these waters”.

I would leave these:

7. Teenage Kicks
8. With or without you
->both appear on some of the rest and who did this, so not very rare

9. Sister (live)
10. Six Mile Water (live)
->Single still available in the shops and on order. Don’t know about other countries, but certainly here in Belgium.

14. Stories (live)
-> same as il-promo, and japanese il-import

How about ‘Next to you’? I think there are many ppl who still don’t have it. I already have it though. And the T? remix of Pitchshifter’s ‘Diable’, is that a rare one?

Rod Stewart’s single rare? Hmm, maybe it’s because of a lack of demand? Or the people who did buy it, have all burnt the single during the annual ritual cd-burning fest!

like the Rod Stewart comments :-)

As i said, its a list of officially released tracks and Next to You doesnt fall into that category, although i agree that its a song that a lot of people wont have. I’ll add it to the list then !

Cheers for the info on Reality as well Sister.

Any more comments or feedback ? Predictions for how badly Rod Stewarts single is going to do in the charts ?

oh yes, nearly forgot: I agree with Teenage Kicks / With or… not being on the list as most people have them.

As for the Hate Kill Destroy b-sides, I am going to have a chat with Universal as HKD was a limited run of 2000 but I think there were many more made for the Netherlands and Belgium.

The promo version of IL has the standard version of Stories (with no david Holmes bits at the beginning) not the live one. Never heard the Japanese IL import so not sure about that one…

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Isn’t Jonestown Mind the song Andy appeared on from The Almighty’s 1994 album ‘Crank’? It was remixed as a b-side of the single release of the song. The remix was really ambient and ghostly.
Or am I getting confused here?

I should have those up soon, and then I need your help to put the rest of the MP3’s up on my site, OK?

What can I say? That man is a star. Cheers Rene…dank je wel!

I have Disgracelands and Diane (acoustic) in CD quality MP3 if you want me to send them your way. I also have the demos on cassette but I dont have a cassette player anymore so I cant MP3 them, I still have a couple of interviews I wanted to MP3 as well. Not sure if I send you cassette copies whether they will be good enough quality, as they are copies already.

Anyway thanks again, and for yours and everybodys discography additions, will be updating the list tomorrow and will repost the address when they are up.

Nighty night

Hi Whaley,

Nice to see you finally found my site.. :-) I already told you about the site a while ago, though! You were taking pictures at one of the 6 gigs last year (don’t remember which one) and I asked you if you knew this site. You said you didn’t and would check it out. I also asked if you could send me some pictures to put on the site and you said you’d think about it. Does this ring any bells, or were you too drunk that night? ;-)

Anyway, if you could send me those mp3’s (128 kbit, 44100Hz), that would be cool! Cheers, Teethgrinder.

Hi,

No I can’t have been drunk because I rarely drink (then again, if I do drink, you never know what happens). I do remember someone telling me about the site, but I’m not sure if I’ve seen it before. I’ve been so busy with the band I know personally called Krezip (Dutch people will know them) and going to Pearl Jam in the UK/Ireland that I let my love for Therapy? slip for a while, even though I did buy the 10-year plan cd when it came out. I did take pictures in Rotterdam, some are even pretty cool. I’ll look them up! I guess seeing Michael at Werchter then hearing about the Zottegem show and seeing this site woke something up in me :)

ehm…what exactly is the difference between the neck freak version from here and the one from Born in a Crash? And…the clean version of Nausea…is there any real difference or is it just without the beginning sample?

I’m not sure, but i think that neck freak on borninacrash the original studio version is, while the neck freak-new version the version is they played on one or another Mark Goodier Session for BBC Radio 1FM (think it was 21.11.92). But I’m not very very very sure about that.

The nausea-clean version is nothing but the nurse-song without the beginning sample.
