T? at Dour 2001 …

… sucked ! Same playlist (same comments, same jokes …) as Rock Zottegem. The crowd was pretty lame, of course there were exceptions.

The T? gig at Rock Zottegem was way better. Andy looked very strange at Dour, if you ask me. It can’t be always full speed, but I was rather disappointed.

I was glad to hear Stop It You’re Killing Me once again, but please stop playing the Troublegum singles. Where was Disgracelands, Bad Mother, Nausea, Straight Life, etc. ?

Nice gig at Rock Zottegem, not so nice gig at Dour.

I don’t completely agree. OK, the audience was lamer as in Zottegem but most people were there for the 4th day and Therapy? was the last band to play at the last day.

Indeed they were playing a bit on auto-pilot but I guess it’s just because you saw them the day before as well. I’m just gratefull to be able to see them twice in a row.

And about the playlist, within an hour they have to please everyone, not just us -the die-hard fans- but also the festival-goers that only know the singles.

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed, but I am not.
Ok, they didn’t interact much with the audience, but that was probably due to the feeling I had at dour. The people were burned out.
Be realistic, I the band has to please everybody they have to play for hours. Only bands that have a few hits can please the fans.
The new somngs are very good. Hearing them now 2 times makes them sound even better.
Gimme, gimme, gimme ; Dance; I am the money; Denim Demon …
I can’t wait until the next album.
A hint if you miss you favorite songs..put the cd on, they are there for that.

Great to here the new songs, great to hear Troublegum songs, great to hear Therapy? songs… I don’t mind from what album they are!
Great to see Therapy?!!!
You can’t compair a ‘family-festival’ audience with a ‘4-day-very-tired-and-wet-festival’ audience.

For a festival, I admit, there should be singles. Problem is that it’s the same everytime, whether they play a festival or whether they play their own gigs. If you really want to play singles over and over again to please the crowd, why not play them in another version like eg. Diane.

I was glad to hear the new songs and I’m looking forward to the new album, no discussion here.

It was almost the last band to play at Dour, but that’s no excuse for a band like T?. They’ve done this before and better.

I do not think you can expect a band to play always 105% on a gig.
I’ve seen many gigs of them, not all are the best, but that they SUCK on Dour, no way that is too much…
Even in Utrecht in 1995 when Andy almost did have no voice and was not feeling to well, they tried to make the best of it, and that is so great.
And if they have to please everybody with their songs I think they have to play a 4 hour gig everytime.

T? … sucked????? Yeah right, on what planet were you?

Same comments & jokes??? What do you mean with that? To be honest, I haven’t heard a single joke that was the same as the day before, NOT A SINGLE JOKE!!!! For example; as it was very funny, I had expected Andy would mention ‘I’m a gangsta rapper’ on the beginning of I am the money again, but he didn’t. And do you remember Andy saying nothing but motherfucker, fuck, fucker, motherfucking,… for 5 minutes? He didn’t do that in Zottegem… And you can’t expect a totally different set in one week-end. You could have expected that; they always do that on 1 tour, and they did the same in 99 (when they first played in Gent, and 2 weeks later played the same set in Brussels). That’s just normal you know. When you go to one concert, you’re not supposed to go to another concert of that same group the next day..

The crowd was pretty lame??? My God, that was what I expected too, but I was wrong, so wrong!!!! Where were you actually???????? I guess you weren’t on one of the first rows in the middle; (I was, and) I hadn’t seen soooo many crowd-surfers since long. And of course you can’t expect ppl to jump up and jump down on the new songs (nobody seemed to know denim demon, but at least they were still dancing on gimme gimme gimme, i am the money, and especially shock treatment), For the rest, the crowd seemed really really cool to me!!! And hi mate, this was the 4th and last day of the festival, you can’t expect them to jump up and jump down if that’s what they have been doing for the previous 3 days…

Andy looked pretty strange????????????????? No comment.

Please stop playing the Troublegum singles? Yeah right. Let’s split up the crowd at a certain gig; there are the die hard-fans, and the other ones. For the die hard fans, it doesn’t really matter what they play. The other ppl, the ppl that just go to a gig for fun, just want to have a good time, they wanna dance, and go mad and things… When they hear the huge T?-hits, they can dance, they can sing along, they can have fun, and that’s what it all about. When you’re going to a gig you’re not expected to know every single song, right? You can just go for fun. Not everyone is a T?-die hard-fan.

Maybe you can organize a private T?-show at your home and ask the boys to play only the stuff you want. If you could choose the ppl that would be coming yourself, it would be even better; just tell them to jump around continuously, and sing along all the time.

Nice gig at Rock Zottegem, nice gig at Dour.

No, you didn’t meet me Sister or Pretender.
I knew I was to expect these reactions, finally some action.

Pretender, maybe ‘suck’ is way too much, but I didn’t like the gig. I like T? as well, I met the guys many times and no bad word about them. There probably the nicest rockers on this planet and they make damn good music. But I just can’t say I like T? whatever they play. You can’t expect a band to be superb every time they play, and this time they were definitely not superb and I was disappointed.

Sister, T? played TW many times, played other places in Belgium many times. Compared to many gigs I saw in the past of T?, this crowd was lame and yes, I was in front, I always am. For a die hard fan it doesn’t really matter what they play ? So whatever they do or play, it’s good for you ? Nice attitude dude.
I understand they have to play singles to garantuee a nice gig for everybody, problem I have here is that they keep doing that even on smaller gigs. I compared play lists around Europe some time ago, they differ a lot. I dunno on which basis they make them, in some places in Europe they play old songs and non-single-songs again. They should do it more often over here. Wouldn’t you like to hear ‘Sister’ again ? No single, but T? can easily move everybody’s ass on that one.

I like T? a lot, but a little criticism wouldn’t hurt, you know …

Sure a little criticism wouldn’t hurt, Innocent. But here it’s just a question of preferences. I liked both shows, I just think they were different.
You just forgot to mention the things that were better in Dour :
In my opinion, the sound was way better there (even if they complained a bit about technical problems at the beginning). This is perhaps because i prefer when they play a cleaner sound.
Graham was in a far better shape than the day before. You could see it on his face and hear him drumming with greater precision. Furthermore, they didn’t screw up the guitar solo on ‘Tubular Bells’. It was less funny, but it sounded far better.
(Just my 2 cent tip)…

it’s always better to have different opinons. If you start to like everything what a certain band does, you could worship them as gods. Nobody deserves that.

finally some action.
->I know criticism wouldn’t hurt, but if ‘finally some action’ is what you think; nice attitude dude, but that’s not criticism anymore. By the way, thanx for the compliments on my attitude as well!

and yes i know that’s it’s always better to have different opinions, but what you told, was just not right. There were no similar jokes and comments, nothing was wrong with andy, and the crowd was dancing. Sorry; that’s just what noticed; i don’t know where you or some of the other ppl were…

take care

I had an a-class time as well at Dour! The thing is, at festivals most people do not come for only one band, but for more. So there weren’t only T? fans at the field. I did see many of the fans I met in Zottegem too, they were all in front. Even though I was surrounded by people who didn’t have a clue what the lads were singing, I was screaming along the lyrics as loud as possible, I was whistling my teeth of, and the two girls in front of me thought it was pretty great as well, since they looked back and approved of it! What I’m trying to say is, even though the crowd may be different, whether you make a party of it or not also depends on yourself!
