Good point from Bad Karma. If the single was released a month or two before the album was out there’d be a lot more incentive to buy, because it’d be a chance to hear new stuff. Maybe that’ll be the plan before the next album and this is seeing how it’s done.

So how much does it cost the band/record company to put out a download single anyway? I don’t mean actual figures, but it’s not as if they’re paying for blank cd’s, artwork and whatnot.

I’m not sure how much it costs a band or record company to distribute their songs through legal download services but i’d imagine its more cost effective than releasing a CD single and taking the risk of spending money on a promo video that doesn’t get played on any of the music channels.

That’s sort of what I figured. I just wondered about the idea that this release is a trial-run. Is it cheap enough to be able to do that, or are they counting on it working.
If any of that made sense…

Title: Prices for the single
Quote (author unknown):
taken from the download site:
The downloads are available as an MP3 file, or zip collection, and costs 99p for the single track, or £1.49 for the 3 track bundle via credit card/paypal or £1.50
and £3.00 via UK mobile phone SMS.

Would have been nice to at least have had artwork included in the download package - pity Iona’s cool pic exists only in cyberspace…

Would be nice, if there is a chance to get the cover for the single.

Hmmm, So no artwork or anything - that seems a bit poor - espeically seeing as they did a cover for it that is shown on the page…

You can download the background image of the site and make your own cover out of it.

Well, as a yank (Or a transplanted Irish man at least ;)), I felt compelled to put up or shut up, so I snagged it earlier this evening. Gotta do my part to support this endeavour :D
Hopefully we’ll see the rest of the album released this way…
One suggestion for the lads though - please make any additional releases high quality VBR MP3 files. 192kbps MP3 files are a step in the right direction, but if I’m not gonna get an original cd out of the deal, please make the downloadable files as high quality as possible!
Cheers :)

Maybe the link is valid for three downloads incase your PC crashes when you’re downloading and you have two more chances.

The problem was rectified…yay!!! The die laughing track is good but the single could of been better by
1.A video to accompany one of the songs (but this might cost a fair bit)
2.A front cover/back cover
3A b-side or a live track such as DLAMF or one rarely heard such as gimme back my brain live

I hope this is a success. Maybe they could put some live shows on there a-la the Pixies or Pearl Jam.

I think there should be an option to buy not only MP3, but FLAC or SHN. MP3s were good for the 90’s, but there are not good for the XXI century.
