Land Of The Dead

George A. Romero is finally returning to the big screen June 24th with a new Living Dead film! As many times as I’ve seen the trailer I still can’t quite believe it. Can’t wait, can’t wait, CAN’T WAIT!!

Sorry not sure when it will be making it’s way to your side of the Atlantic, hopefully soon.

Saw the trailer the other day, very excited especially with the fact that Dennis Hopper’s going to be in it.

Is there going to be a remake of Day Of The Dead, like Dawn Of The Dead? I searched for it on imdb.com a few weeks ago, there was a director and writer attatched, but no crew or news about it.

I can’t wait for Land of the Dead, either. really excited to see what the master can do with all the new technology…

Apparently the zombies slowly start to learn. Like how to use guns.

And there appears to be zombie gladiator-type sports. (Big pit. zombies. people thrown in.)

Yeah, in the original Day Of The Dead, the doctor teaches Bob The Zombie to do stuff, helping him remember things from when he was alive, like read a book and shoot a gun.

In a couple of hours, I will be in a theater watching a George A. Romero zombie flick. I swear to God part of me still can’t believe this is happening. I’ll put up a review for it here later today or tomorrow morning. And if I find out when it’s gonna be released over in Europe, I’ll let you know.

I just got back from this movie, and I have to say that I loved it. Not too campy, and not too over the top horror.

Sure, there are the usual “jump at the quick attack” moments that are required, but you never feel that it dominates the movie above the characters involved.

After I got back to my friends house from the theatre, I got into my car and actually looked in back for a zombie.

Was there one there?

Sounds great, can’t wait to see it. I’m sure my girlfriend will like it too. she refused to watch Dawn Of The Dead for about 6 months on the basis that it wasn’t going to be as good as the original:
“Zombies don’t run! They shuffle!”

Well, it’s Saturday, 6:33 P.M. as I type this, and I’m still happy as hell about yesterday. I’ve finally seen a new Romero zombie movie(and in a theater, no-less), and I cant wait to go back. So here is my quick, little review:
LAND OF THE DEAD is one HELL of a good time. We get zombies, and plenty of them, as well as some compelling main characters, a hallmark of Romero’s films. Romero also up’s the scare factor by introducing a new concept: smart zombies. Now, their not doing math problems or yacking about politics or nothing, but, under the leadership of one particular zombie called Big Daddy, they band together and slowly make thier way to Fiddler’s Green, a walled in city were many people try to lead regular lives despite the fact that theres a whole world of zombies just outside. And once the “stenches”(as the zombies are referred to a few times)get to the city, its one of the scariest sights I’ve seen, ever.
Acting-wise, I have no complaints. Simon Baker does a good job as Riley, the some-what hero of our story who dreams of a world of no-walled-in cities or zombies. John Leguizamo is great as Cholo, Rileys right-hand man who has ambitions of his own, and will go to any lengths to achieve them. Robert Joy, who played the killer in Russell Mulcahy’s thriller RESSURECTION, is great as the slow-witted but eagle-eyed Charlie, who is extremely loyal to Riley.
Asia Argento rocks, although I wish she had more to do, and Dennis Hopper was great as Kuafman, who rules over Fiddler’s Green with an iron fist. Lastly, Eugene Clark is wonderful as Big Daddy, a role that could have been cheesy in the wrong hands.
Effects-wise, all the zombie make-up is awesome, and the gore effects that made it into the film is kick-ass, although this film is not as gory as the original DAWN OF THE DEAD or DAY OF THE DEAD. About six minutes of stuff was cut out to get an R-rating and will be put back for the DVD.
Most of it will be gore effects.
Now, the film is’nt perfect and I do wish it was longer(it’s around 90 min.), but it is still a HELL of lot better than sitting through most of the crappy horror flicks that have been released lately(CURSED, HOUSE OF THE DEAD, ect.).
And the fact that Romero has finally made a new zombie feature overshadows the very few complaints I have. I’m not sure where I would place it in the Living Dead series, but repeated viewings will help that decision.
I think I could handle that.:D

went to see it yesterday. i thought it was good although it could have had a bit more variation other than “theres a zombie, let’s mow the bastard down with a machine gun”. dennis hopper was great although his role should’ve been bigger. in terms of production it seemed much more “resident evil” than i was expecting. still, jolly good fun though. you’ve gotta love zombies. just rolling around, eating aa few brains. wicked.

Didn’t think Land of the Dead was up to much to be honest - kind of like a watered down version of the previous three. Still some good quotes though:

I thought this movie was pretty lame. Romero just can’t keep up with the times. I mean why would somebody who’s supposed to look out for Zombies listen to loud rock music over the headphones? Maybe, this would have been acceptable in the 80’s but nowadays such stupid little things are not acceptable.

The story didn’t make no sense at all, either. Why woul rich people still care about jewelry in the midst of an apotocalyptic rise of the dead? Why were the Zombies made out to be poor fellows who “just want a place where they can be”? They EAT PEOPLE for christ’s sake!

No, I didn’t like this movie at all. Romero should retire.

Romero likes to put in digs at greed and consumerism (i.e. the whole mall bit in Dawn of the Dead), but sometimes you can stretch too far to make a point and it can come off as dumb.
