Megadeth or Metallica

#

Started by Mary Christ

I’ve got a soft spot for both to be honest - but what with those fuckers starting that annoying Napster thing, I kinda think Dave Mustaine’s probably cooler, despite his ginger handicap.

Mmm. Interesting question!
First of all Metallica made 4 fuckin’ Masterpieces! Cannot deny that. (For those who don’t know all Pre-1991 albums). Megadeth only 1 (Rust In Peace). Also, they both made crap albums. Since Jason left Metallica is really crap now! I cannot stand the rock-star-bullshit of lars and his money grabbing techniques. Also Megadeth is quite back on track with their latest album. So hmmm…Megadeth or Metallica?
1980-1989: Metallica
1990-xxxx: Megadeth (exl. Risk)
Easy!

Also, remember that Mustaine wrote almost all of Call of Ktulu, very big factor, I think. He also had a dog to guard his dope - I think that is a very cool use of a dog…

The Black Album should be included too in my opinion, there are some classics on it as well. But after this, it really went downhill, although I kinda like Garage Inc. and S&M (the cd, that is). But Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are masterpieces that every rockfan should have. I only ‘discovered’ these albums after the Black Album, Load and Reload (which both suck bigtime), etc., but those two albums are way better than anything they’ve released after those, except for One, which is the ultimate Metallica song, I think.

i agree, especially master of puppets is a masterpiece.. that bass-solo in ‘orion’ is pure brilliance. hail cliff burton! i haven’t heard that much megadeth though.. i have to admit i can’t stand his singing style, it sounds like he’s suffering from a constipation (is that the word?)

I think Sanitarium and Fade To Black are some of the most underrated songs by Metallica, most people don’t even know these songs. And Cliff Burton was indeed a great guitar player!

Ride The Lightning is easily one of my fave albums of all time: For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade To Black, Creeping Death, in fact the whole damn album makes me wanna get drunk and headbang!

In my opinion, The Thing That Should Not Be is one of the most underestimated songs they have. Ever since I saw it on Headbanger’s Ball I was sold!

All albums up until ‘Metallica’ are good, Load has some good songs (2x4, Until It Sleeps, Aint My Bitch) but lots of crap as well, esp those softy Mama Said bullshit tracks. Not my thing at all! As for Reload, Garage Days, S&M, etc. I wouldn’t know ‘cause I didn’t even care anymore to check it out! The only other good thing is Live Shit: Binge & Purge albeit a very pricy item the cd’s rock! In fact I prefer to play a live cd ‘cause it has all the good stuff on there and catches the amazing live vibe that Metallica is famous for.

Just my 2 cents…

Hell yeah, Live Shit, Bige & Purge rules! Very powerful live songs, I especially like the ‘punky’ songs like Moterbreath, but I’m also impressed by songs like One (the intro with the shooting and helicopters lasts a couple of mins.) and Creeping Death (the parts that tens of thousands of people yell ‘die, die, die!!!’). It’s a real shame that they’ve changed because of the stardom!

I watched both of the bands twice. One concert of Metallica was great, the other was only good!
Megadeth sucked in the both of the concerts.
Also, I can’t stand Dave Mustaine’s talking after Nick and Marty!

So, I should say Metallica though I’m not a fan of Metallica..

Overall, I’d say Megadeth.

During the eighties I’d say Metallica, and during the nineties I liked Megadeth more (Rust in Peace!!!). Risk was a mistake though, but with ‘The World Needs a Hero’ they’re heading in the right direction.

Megadeath is Metallica’s bastard son. Metallica wins hands down, they have more better albums.

When did they release their first single (and thereby raping their Burton-era principles)? Think about it: the longer that fuck was in the band, the lower they sank.

Don’t agree with you though, ever since my last post I’ve started to appreciate Megadeth even more. ‘Real kings of metal’? Come on, just listen to Peace Sells… and Rust In Peace. Metallica never came close.

What the hell???? Never listened to Kill ‘Em All?? Ride the Lightning?? Master of Puppets???

And especially live, Megadeth is pure SHIT compared to Metallica… and I both saw them live already many times, so I have a right to say that…

But hey, if you like Megadeth, no worries… “Free speech for the dumb” was on Garage Inc right and covered by Metallica :D??

For me, Metallica suck, more guitar-wank than you could shake a stick at. I’ve seen them live and the intro to their first song must have gone on for a good 20 minutes, after which I was bored and left.

Megadeth are just funny, I wouldn’t credit them with any great talent other than making me laugh.

It has to be metallica (from the point of view of a guitarist) as James Hetfield and Kirt Hammit are both amazing players. Heard one of their new tracks (from st.anger) but wasn’t very impressed. If anyone else wants to hear it just go to the official metallica website :)

Strange you play the Guitarists’ card, because thats bullshit. Even though I prefer Metallica, Mustaine (or Marty Friedman, for that matter) tear Hammet in pieces with one hand tied behind their backs on the technical territory. Metallica solos are the leads that beginning guitar players learn. Only thing that goes for Metallica is that Hetfield is a fucking tight rhythm player.
Start this guitar discussion on ANY guitar site, and you will hear the same story.

One hand tied behind their backs? Won’t that make playing the guitar a bit difficult?!

i have always liked megadeth more. metallica have written more catchy tunes, but songs like peace sells, wake up dead, set the world afire, holy wars, 5 magics or sweating bullets cannot be surpassed. ofcourse their last album really sucked so thank god they broke up.
