Chorus works (depending on the type). I use a Flanger (MXR Phane 90 specifically it doesn’t overpower the rest of the tone like some Flangers), delay and my Strat.

My SG or Les Paul’s humbuckers are bit fat, so if you have the option go with a guitar with single coil pickups. On the distortion don’t keep the gain all the way up on all songs. If your distortion has a bottom variable, put it at about 3/4s, and put your tone where it’s a bit on the bright side.

This works for me, and I’ve been playing along with these alot lately (especially Innocent X, Skyward and Potato Junkie). This set up works well for Nurse songs like Perversonality, Teethgrinder and Disgracelands as well.

Of course depending on your set up it may not work as well.

But the Flanger, and delay should do you good.
