Renting properties

#

Started by hoochalobster (Sarah) Super Moderator

I have a fixed term tenancy which runs out at the end of January but my landlord has asked if I’d mind moving out in October, as he wants to knock my house down.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Can I make him pay me compensation (i.e. the cost of moving house)? I don’t mind moving but since I thought it wouldn’t be for another 6 months, I haven’t started saving for it yet.

All I would say is that you don’r move out until January. The agreement runs out in January, not October, therefore you are entitled to live there until then. That’s basically what I’d say to the landlord.

IF he’s asked if you would mind, and you say ‘no, I don’t mind’ then IO don’t think you can then try and claim compensation as well… But yeah, if you’re contract is until January, then you’re surely entitled to stay till then (meaning compensation if he forces you out).

Anyway, we need to start looking for a place soon, Honey. ;)

I didn’t say that I didn’t mind, I told him I’d have to talk to my sister about it and she’s in Africa til the end of the month. He’s such a wanker that I’d be very happy for him to not be my landlord anymore but the temptation to stay just to piss him off is big :D

Sorry man. This crazy three-way relationship with people I have never met is just what I need right now. All I know is that it feels right and that the sex is going to be awesome. Especially when neither of them are there and I’m going through their stuff.

Aw! I just had fun cause I got really drunk and then spoke to daryl on the phone and he talks really posh!

Anyway, I actually just wanted to say I know I said I was going to bed but I can’t go to sleep until I know my message board is tucked in so I had to come online, and I apologise for leaving you in the hands of my mother, I hope you’re okay!

Oh surprise me! I always picture d going to work in a pinstripe suit and bowler hat, copy of the FT tucked neatly under his arm and a snazzy briefcase in the other.

He should sue Therapy? for stealing his look in the Infernal Love era.

hmmm, Im in a similar situation. If in the tennancy agreement it says a months notice must be given, then he could say he wants you out in a month, and you’d have to leave. This works the way too, you have to tell him a month in advance etc etc…ggggggrrrrrrrrr landlords!

Just check your agreement, I’m sure that somewhere there will be something about giving notice normaly you have to give a month and they have to give two or something. If there is, then there is nothing you can do as he is giving you more than enough notice. It’s different if he has to give two month but tells you a month before it’s knocked down. Then you might have a case.

It’s a fixed term contract, so he can’t boot me out before January if I don’t want to go. Equally if I moved out, I would still owe him rent up until January.

d - If I have elocution lessons can I borrow your monicle?

Monicle? Oh, you mean ‘monocle’? Say it: Monocle. Mon-Okull.

‘Monicle’ is what Dick Van Dyke would probably say. :p

Dunno if there’s anything in your contract about a notice period , hoocha.

But even if there’s not I think it’s a standard 2 months notice period for a landlord to give to you and 1 month for a tennant to give the landlord.
I do stand to be corrected on this but I’m in the same boat as you when it comes to renting and I remember something being told to me by the building manager.
