No, I don’t have it yet, but do you think it’s referring to the fact that they might me be tired of their ‘Troublegum-image’ ?

i definitely think it is… here is the first set of lyrics…

‘i want to destroy everything i know,
i want to start again from scratch.
i’ve done so many things that i regret,
but i don’t feel guilty and i won’t look back.
i’m sick and tired of going nowhere,
i need a new source of power…’

from my point of view this is a definite reference to troublegum days, and/or having to play ‘nowhere’ all the time…

That definitely sounds that way indeed! I think it’s not just the fact that they have to play Nowhere all the time, but that it’s a reference to the old days/songs in general.

I love that Eels album as well! I was just thinking about buying some more of their stuff, because this album is the only one I have. Do you have anymore of their albums which you can recommend?

Hey Rene; Electro Shock Blues is really really cooool as well!! Don’t know if ‘Daisies of the Galaxy’ is ok, as I just didn’t buy it (didn’t like the singles; and never ever had the intention to say ‘hey cool; now i’m gonna buy the new eels-album’..). I actually just heard the new single (from their new album, soon to be released, don’t know when exactly) this week, and I must say, it really really really ROCKED. it was kinda hard, with many guitars and riffs and things; something weird; something you don’t expect from Mr. E. in my opinion… Seen any gigs of them yet? You reallly should, they’re just ‘brilliant’!!

So, Rene, tomorrow, just go and buy electro Shock Blues, trust me!

Ok, I’ll check out Electro Shock Blues then, if you insist ;-) I have never seen them live, but I will definitely go and see them if they come to Holland.

I can’t hear Nowhere enough, actually. I love that song, it’s the song that made me a Therapy? fan, it was in fact the first song I ever heard from Therapy? If they don’t like/want to play it, I don’t think they would play it all the time, that would be ‘un-Therapy?’, don’t you agree?

Anyway, Yeah…All Eels Albums fuckin’ rule! (pardon my french)
Electro-Shock Blues is one of the darkest records I’ve ever heard. Especially when you know the background of the lyrics. Makes me sad.
Anyway, Daisies Of The Galaxy is quite acoustic. I love it as well. It’s very strange, because E. felt really depressed and came up with a very uplifing album. Good stuff!
As for the new record: It’s called: Souljacker (ref. Serial Killer) and will be released the 10th of September (Europe).
Anyone got any Eels singles for sale by-the-way?

About Nowhere: Well I hope they don’t regret making ‘Troublegum’. They really don’t have to play Nowhere Live all the time in my opinion, so that’s their choice…but yeah, It must be frustrating to be known by your hitsingles only…

yeah, i don’t think they hate nowhere, or the troublegum image… i just think the lyrics are saying that it’s time to move on… and it’s time for people to see them for the music they are making now, and to not keep comparing it to the troublegum-era…

and as for eels, i must honestly say that i didn’t really care for the last 2 albums… there are some truly great songs on each, but both albums don’t have the consistency that beautiful freak does…

at least, i don’t believe they do…

I really don’t think many bands actually dislike their own music. Quite the opposite in fact. Of course they like Nowhere, if they don’t I’ll eat my own head.

Well, when reading sentences like ‘Troublegum belongs to the fans, though I would never insult them by not playing those songs’ or ‘screamager is about being young, which we aren’t anymore’, I get the impression, they (or at least Andy) isn’t that happy about it, so yes, maybe tired, but not hate to play it. I mean, it must be frustrating that everything they do is always (mostly) compared to Troublegum.

Barbie, et al… I don’t think we are saying T? hate Troublegum… as a matter of fact it’s one of the few albums they haven’t cut up after it was released (i.e. I.L, S.D)…

I think what we are saying is the the lyrics to Gimme Back My Brain reflects the fact the T? are always compaired to their Troublegum days, regardless of what new album they put out… And I think they are tired of that, but not Troublegum itself…

at least, that what I think we are saying… ;)

I think Andy doesn’t relate to the lyrics he wrote on the Troublegum album anymore. The (teenage)-angst driven poetry (I love it!) like: ‘Going nowhere’, ‘I’ve got nothing to do’, ‘I’m in hell and I’m alone’, …that sort of thing…he’s a very happy man now…posibly

Hmm, the whole discussion reminds me of a concert, when Andy put the microphone in the direction of the audience, and let them sing ‘Screamager’ instead of himself. I mean, I also wouldn’t like to sing the same oldsongs every evening. They also didn’t want to play teethgrinder, when some fans were yelling for it.
Of course I like Troublegum and songs like Teethgrinder. But why to T? don’t play elder songs like ‘Animal Bones’ or so?
(Sorry for my bad english…)

Hey Opal, sorry about stealing your quote, but I wasn’t aware of the fact that you used it before.. You can use my Texans/Bush quote now if you want ;-)

I’ve bought Electro Shock Blues by the way, and the first impression is definitely good. I have to listen to it a couple more times though, but I’m not disappointed so far!

Anyway, Electro-Shock took quite some time for me to enjoy. The thing is so dark and heavy. All songs are about his mothers’ cancer and his sisters’ suicide. Just listen to the small crying outburst at the end of ‘Antfarm’..sniff…so tense…And the sampling is amazing. The beginning of Cancer for the Cure for example. That terrible screeching noise…haha…Oh, they play live at Lowlands and in Groningen…
