lending money to so called friends

Started by not_that_kind_of_guy (a story on the radio) in Chit-Chat

lending money to people just doesn’t work.

i worked out tonight that i am over a thousand pounds owed from people who i consider to be friends. i get all the usual excuses from them “oh it’s been a tight month” or whatever. point is, it’s my fucking money that you’re spending taking out your boy/girl on the razz all the time. i’m usually too polite to actually mention that to them in person because that’s what i’m like.

however here i can vent my spleen about this. anyone else with similar stories…? and if so, what’s the solution?

i’ve told them enough times. i usually don’t like to mention it. infact it’s usually them that bring it up and i get promise after promise that i’ll get it back. but i never do. i have lent it to them under very good circumstances i.e usually them having to pay for rent or for them not to be in bad orders with their drug dealers (of which i have no personal interest at all, just looking out for my mates). thing is, i could really do with that money right now.

When i came home the land lord wanted his money so I asked tim why he had not paid it and he said i didn’t think he had to. But did wonder how £400 had turned up in his account for no reason, so he had spent it on stuff. What a dick head.

Fuck knows mate, this was about a year and a half ago. I chucked him out and stopped the lease when I found out he had started doing smack. Every time I have tried to get the money he never has a job, so it’s never easy. I think he might have a job now so at one point i may give it another go. I was pretty pissed off myself at the time, as you can imagine.

don’t agree with you.
From the start he lends a big ammount of money, meaning that prior to that he has to doublethink how the hell he is going to return them.

And saying “you borrowed a big ammount, spent it for God knows what and now don’t have any way to return them, so please think of returning them to me for the period of 10 years” is too gentle.

You have to be hard on this mf. It’s his responsibilty to look for the ways to settle the matter.

never lend more then you think he’ll be able to return.

It’s an idea, I will have to track down the c*nt first I have his last address. The last thing i heard about him was that he had a heart attack at 26 years old, he could be dead for I know!
