Audiogalaxy is pretty cool although it’s almost getting too popular (really slow sometimes). I use Gnutella (BearShare) and Audiogalaxy.. I’ve found every song I have wanted to download using these two.. Gnutella is pretty good at finding really obscure mp3’s, but that depends on what servers you’re connected to.

it’s not as good though as Napster at it’s best times…I wanted to download Pearl Jam’s Jeremy, but they didn’t let me… I use Audiogalaxy and installed Morpheus a time ago. It’s very comfortable, but there aren’t that many songs to find.

i’ve used KaZaA, which is part of Morpheus I beleive… it’s really good for mainstream stuff, but nothing rare…

so far i haven’t been totally impressed with audiogalaxy… it’s the best one out there i think, but it’s search function sucks… and depending on how one person labelled their mp3, it keeps a record of it, so a search for Therapy? brings up way too many listings for the same song…

oh well, i guess you shouldn’t complain if it’s free…

Well, I can’t find all songs I like ;-(
Not even on Napster…hehehe
But anyway, Michael…I got the Gimme B-Sides on Mp3…since I stole a Pick Up and doing some CD-recordings…I’ll put them in my share directory and switch on my Audio Satelitte…I’ll be online quite much…otherwise I’ll send them with MSM (micturion@hotmail.com) directly.

Can someone please tell me how this stuff works? I just got an acount and downloaded the satelite, but it just says ‘satelite not active’. Did I do something wrong or am I just stupid???

maybe you’d be willing to messenger them to be too? mfgeorge@hotmail.com

cheers!

oh, donVutz, this is how it works… the ‘no active transfers’ just means you are not downloading anything at the moment… but as long as it says that you are connected to a server, then you’re cool… so then you hit that big GO button and your browser loads up and you can start looking for stuff… when you find something you want click the icon of the Satellite and it will sent it to your queue… once it’s in there it will start downloading the song right away if it’s available… if it doesn’t start downloading it will tell you why (either it’s offline or it’s behind a firewall)… once it starts downloading you will see in your satellite (the small grey window with ‘no active transfers’ and the GO button) the progress of the file being transfered…

i think that’s it… i’ve only been using it for a week myself so i may have missed a thing or two…

I’ve been using it for about 2 months, I’ve found almost every song I’ve searched for, although I’ve often had to think up of creative titles. If you go for famous songs you’ll sometimes find the satellite button has an x on it, meaning it’s blocked by copyright laws or some shit, just keep looking ‘cos someone else will have spelled the song differently, or called it by one of the lyrics in the song.

Doing a search for Therapy? brings up 3-4 bands (AG doesn’t recognise the ?) all called therapy, one of them is an american rip/hip-hop band which sucks the big one.

I like AudioGalaxy. It’s pretty good for people with slow/buggy connections like me, because it lets you resume broken transfers, throttle the bandwidth and it keeps a pretty steady transfer rate for me. Bearshare is pretty pointless for me. It takes forever to get connected with a server, download speeds are terrible (we’re talking 0.2kbps!) and 99% of the time I can’t even get the file in question. I recently started with MusicCity Morpheus, and I think that it shows a lot of potential as well.

Brendon, it’s true that BearShare is not very good when having a slow connection. My friend has the same problem, he can’t even get connected. But if you have a cable modem or better it’s great; once I got 1200 kB/s!!! but usually it’s around 300 (i have broadband). So if you have a speedy connection it’s recommended. besides there’s all the porn you will ever need. :-Þ

Well the good news is that when I move to Washington in October, I’ll have a broadband connection. Plus I’ll just start running my site off of my own computer, which will be fast and allow me to rotate mp3s much quicker!
