So who was the winner of Have a Merry Fucking Xmas on ebay a couple of days ago? I wanted it too but gave up at £28.

One day I will get that vinyl…

There was no picture, nor was there any reference to a catalog number in the item listing, which is why I didn’t bother bidding on. That, and I’m poor too.

It’s the original version. It wasn’t me who bought it though, I don’t know who did.

What makes you say it was the original?

I’d like to think it was a really bad condition bootleg just to make me feel better for giving up at £28.

Kinda regret that now…

I asked the seller which version it was, and she told me it was the original (with the ‘santa-gemil’).

Original: sleeve: gemil santa but with curly lettertype written ‘Have A Merry Fucking Christmas’ on the 7’ is the A&M nummber written and all kinds of info

Bootleg: sleeve: gemil santa but this time the sentence ‘Have A Merry Fucking Christmas’ is written with impact lettertype and on the 7’ is only the songtitel written and with a code, something like SC09 (if I remember correctly)

You’re forgetting the picture of Michael on the bootleg. It’s the same picture from the Opal Mantra 7’ I believe. Gemil’s on the back, sound quality is crap.

Brendon, there’s virtually (I think) no difference between the sound quality of the original and the bootleg - I think you just have a dodgy version of the bootleg…and before anyone asks; yes, I am sure that it’s an original and not a sneaky look-alike pirate copy!!
By the way, anyone have the ‘Meat Abstract’ boot? Or does it even exist?

The Meat-Abstract bootleg… to be honest the first time I heard about that one was a few weeks ago on this board. I don’t know anything about it and I also doubt if there is one.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a Meat Abstract bootleg but I kind of doubt that there is. We would have seen them for sale by now. Even the boot of HAMFC shows up on eBay ever few months. A bootleg of Meat Abstract would certianly be worth more.

Alan, either I have a shitty record player (which I did), a shitty copy of the bootleg (which I do) or the original official version has shitty sound quality. I recall Michael saying that the bootleg had garbage quality compared to the original, which is why I assumed that all of the bootlegs sounded just as awful. On the CD bootleg with the HAMFC tracks (I forget which bootleg it is), the quality sounds much better. Of course, the people who made the CD bootleg could have cleaned up the original source somewhat I suppose.

In conclusion, I paid $20 for a piece of vinyl I’ll never listen to.

My bootleg HAMFC is rather awful, and there’s the Record Collector
article saying Michael got the bootleg while on tour with a dodgy
picture of himself and awful sound quality. I may hope the original
sounds better. No idea how much better though, because I’ve never
heard the original. The original Meat Abstract single sounds a lot
better than the bootleg HAMFC, anyway.
I don’t know about a Meat Abstract bootleg. Is that a copy of the 7’?
Any obvious difference in sleeve or record?

Well we don’t know if there is a Meat Abstract bootleg, Whaley, we’re just speculating right now.

I’m not a huge fan of the sound quality on ANY vinyl, particularly the cheap European bootleg vinyls (live in Astoria, HAMFC among others). Granted, I owned a really crappy turntable, but they still sounded like shit. I’ve had the vinyl vs. CD argument with people before, who will swear up and down that vinyls have better sound quality. I know enough from back in my raving days that you need a pretty good table and sound system to make a vinyl sound as clear as a CD. These days, a T? vinyl is pretty much just a collectors item.
