we’re off into the studio again soon to do some more stuff and I was wondering what amps people have used to record with, or what they’d recomend.different head combinations and what not…

Cannot be beaten, but you can literally use ANY amp to record with and get great results, whether it’s a 1000 watt rack or a 10 watt piece of shit. It’s mostly the studio engineer’s problem.

I got into a habit of when recording clean guitars using putting them through bass amps, as you get a warm sound and if you ever do heavy songs it can give you more grunt.

Don’t use the Marshall MG series, while they do hvae classic marshall distortion, they also have a cooliung fan in the head unit which is just a cunt to noise gate.

but pretty much any decent amp with reasonable size cab should sound good.

If possible get a long lead so you cna have just the cab in the live room and all the pedals and amp in the control room so you just record the guitar, none of the noise of the guiatist swearing or stomping pedals and ropping loose change

Yeah, it was an ill advised choice as a niaeve guitarist, hence i now use an awesomely heavy Ibanez distortion pedal, and am looking for a better amp but can’t afford a VHT or Framus for a long long time.

ok dudes - i got a question. I usually play 5 string basses but just got a 4 which i tune down real low but the neck doesnt like it and the strings are horrible and buzzy past about the 10th fret. Anyone else got this prob and how do you remedy it? I dont like high action on the neck but i muight have to wind the strings up a bit. Anyone know how Michael does it tuning his guitars down a step?

what gauge strings are you using? - try using a heavier gauge than you normally would.

I generally use 45’s but i’ll try 50’s next time. I suppose Michael has a tech who sets his up perfectly every time. I want one!

I used to play in dropped C, with the top string being about 105 or 110 i think.

What are you looking at tuning down to?

I drop them all down 1 step (D,G,C,F) and then the big string down again to C. And i use distortion! Proper filth! The problem might be the guitar too, its only a Precision/jazz Squire copy worth £200! They sound quite good though, id recommend them as a second bass - its just the neck thats a pain in the er… neck!

thats drop C - you shouldnt really have a problem dropping it to that with heavier strings - even if it is a cheap bass.
