mmmmm, I’m going through a Pink Floyd stage at the moment. But my vote goes to Black Sabbath, just for the influence they had on metal music.

The Beatles. If you like them or not, you have to admit that they were briliant.

I might be inclined to be a loser and say the Clash, the Cure or the Smiths.

Beatles were not the best british band.
They were a good band, but they are totally overrated to godlike proportions sometimes. People who have no real knowledge of them always claim to love them too, gah fashion gah.

Black Sabbath are probably my favourite British band, wouldn’t be willing to say best to any of the ones i know though.

Joy Division?…Well they only have two official studio albums. Both are marvelous. Unknown Pleasures is more punky than Closer [2nd] and definitly my favorite. Really dark…
Or buy the Heart And Soul box if you want to have (almost) everything in one go…

For quality of songs with consistency I gotta say Queen. For actual musical talent and song-writing I would choose Led Zepplin. You are joking about The Smiths I hope!
