Essay on this great Group…THERAPY?

#

Started by jeffq

I have to write an essay about the internationalisation of ireland and i would have liked to choose Therapy? as an exemple.

According to you which songs deal with Ireland?

What is the point of view of Therapy? on ireland?

As great fan of therapy? do you think they promote their country or contribute in the opening up of their country?

Thank you for giving me your precious help and ideas!!
Looking forward to hearing from you!!

They’re from Northern Ireland. Does that invalidate them being in your essay?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but hopefully you’d not done too much work on them.

U2 would probably be an easy band to research.

Doing Guinness would actually be pretty wise, considering the wealth of information available.

Guinness would be really interesting because the largest Guinness brewery isn’t (or wasn’t) in Ireland - its in Nairobi in Kenya. The stuff they brew there tastes foul & nothing like ‘proper’ Guinness but is vrey popular, and after Coca Cola is probably the most common Western logo over there.

All Guinness sold in the UK apparently is now imported from Ireland - until recently it was brewed under license here.

Without getting too political they’re still from Ireland - there’s an entry for them in the Encyclopedia of Ireland (along with stuff like The Mourne Mountains and Samuel Beckett!)

As for songs about their home country… read the lyrics to Potato Junkie. I’ve always thought Wall Of Mouths was about the political talks leading up to the agreement (looking through the news for clues etc). Tango Romeo is about getting pulled over by the RUC. Joey is about Joey Dunlop, an NI biker. “Big Yellow Cranes Hold Up The Clouds” from Loose is about the Harland and Wolff cranes in Belfast. If you read the stories behind the songs for Babyteeth you can find out about a lot of NI stuff too. There’s loads more… Six Mile Water is the name of a river etc

They’re the best thing to come out of this place since the road to Dublin! ;)

It’s not part of Great Britain, it’s part of the United Kingdom. Great Britain is only the island of Scotland, Wales, and England, although both islands (including Southern Ireland) are sometimes referred to as the British Isles.

The RUC is what the police used to be called over here. Nowadays they’re called the PSNI.

The “Big Yellow Cranes” are where the titanic was built. You can see them about halfway down this webpage:

I love me Guinness, but it is still shit compared to the Guinness in Ireland, even when you get a good pint of it in the UK, it just doesn’t compare.
I went to a pub when I was in Dublin called the Porterhouse, and they brewed a number of of stouts, and one called I think Wrasslers XXX, lovely brew

United Kingdom is the Kingdom of England and Wales (both form one Kingdom, Wales being a Principality, I belive is the term) and the kingdom of Scotland. Great Britain is that and N.Ireland.
Gary Moore was born in Belfast I think…

No it’s not! Anyone with a British Passport can look at the front which says “The United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” ie NI is NOT part of Great Britain but IS part of the UK… not that it really matters like :o

So Wales is represented on the Union Jack…?

UK is the island of Great Britain, the UK includes NI. Not too clear on the status of all the odd little bits like the Isle of Man, The Channel Islands, the Falklands, but their all basically British up to the point that they see a tax advantage in saying otherwise. That said, I think we should distance ourselves from any island where the cats have no tails. What other weirdness goes on there, rational men can’t ken.

“Over the centuries, Great Britain has evolved politically from several independent countries (England, Scotland, and Wales) through two kingdoms with a shared monarch (England and Scotland), a single all-island Kingdom of Great Britain, to the situation following 1801, in which Great Britain together with the island of Ireland constituted the larger United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (UK). The UK became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the 1920s following the independence of five-sixths of Ireland as the Republic of Ireland.”

And just to keep this T? related…
