He was 39 at the time.
But anyway, I think it’s completely relative to the people involved.

Title: Age difference. (merged)
I was just wondering what everyone thought about couples that are together with a big age difference.
I’m 19 on new years eve and my girlfriend has just turned 21. We seem to be going ok, but I’m scared that she might suddenly change her mind.
I know people who have 15 years difference, although its the man thats older, and they don’t seem happy.
Is anyone here happy with someone with a bigger age difference???

My roommate is 22 years old and he’s got a girlfriend who is 28 years old and they both don’t give a shit. They are very happy together, so you’re not alone. Age is in between your ears in my opinion. I know a 51 year old who is more alive and enjoying life to the fullest than another 23 year old guy I know who talks like every breath could be his last…as long as 2 people are tuned in to the same frequency I guess age should never be a problem..so,don’t worry!

There are 7 and a half years between me (32) and my (younger) wife. When we met, she was 18 and I was…um…(uses fingers to count)..26, I think.
I do not think there is an issue there. No-one really brings up the age difference.
In terms of life experience, she has seen a lot more of life and ‘lived’ a lot more, so in some ways she has an older head on her shoulders, but then in other ways, sometimes I seem like the older one.
Her parents have a 22 year age gap between them, which is a little more tricky to get your head around.
Of course, now her mother (the younger one) is in her mid-forties, it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but bear in mind at one point you are talking about an 18 year old woman and a 40-year old man, and you can imagine the eyebrows that were raised at the time…

I’ve only ever been in a relationship with women, of more or less, the same age as me. Although, I’ve had one-nighters with girls way younger than me (all legal of course!), I couldn’t imagine dating them. Mainly due to some level of immaturity on their behalf.
But, there’s nothing to say that all girls who are, say, 20 are immature compared to 26 year old women. Just most :) And I’d say the percentage of younger males being immature is higher again. But each to their own!

Right now, my girlfriend is 8 years younger than me. (I’m 30, she’s 22)
That’s not what I choose, but it happens!!!

I’m 26, and I can’t imagine dating an 18 year old… not because of the age itself, but because of the difference in experiences and even the differences of what this kind of relationship would mean to each participant. I get hit on by 16 year olds (cause I look too damn young!), but wouldn’t consider for a second taking these young ladies out, simply because they havn’t had the experience as far as relationships go.
A lot changes in just a few years, eh?
It must have been not long after making that post that I met the lovely young lady I am currently engaged to marry in June. She persued me relentlessly, and I fought with myself constantly to not be with her, as she was 17 at the time. We spent a lot of time together, enjoyed the same things, talked, and realized that we are both looking for the same things in life.
Well, we’ll fast-forward to now. In July (11 months of dating) I asked her to marry me, and she said yes! We planned to get married in June of 2007, but plans got moved up a year, so June 20th, 2006 is the wedding date. I couldn’t be happier. She’s smart, creative (she’s in her first year of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago), and more beautiful than a guy with my mug certainly deserves!
Time has taught me that age doesn’t matter. So long as your emotional states are similar and you make certain that you are both looking for the same things in a relationship, age is only an issue if you let it be (barring legality issues, of course).

Wow! I can not believe this thread has surfaced again!
The 40-something and I have recently split, and we are still very good friends. The reason for our split was not realted to our ages. I maintain that it is all relative to individuals rather than stupid quantifiable crap like dates and numbers.
Anyway, I am 21 now and have a 29 year old, is this acceptable? :p

Well, the youngest I went with was 17, when I was about 23 or 24.
You’re right… felt good :)
Kinda embarrassing though, when she started working in the same company about 6 months ago!

A couple of years ago I was having ‘relations’ with a woman who claimed to be 27, but looked much older. She used to hang around the rock clubs of Bristol with her sister, who looked about 18.
Imagine my horror when I found out that her ‘sister’ was actually her daughter.
The awful postscript to the whole sordid tale is that I actually fancied her daughter :D
