Heard Darkness’ new single and am not bothered by it.

I have to say the new single disappointed me too and everyone knows i really enjoyed the first album.

I might wait until i hear a couple of more singles from the album before i decide to buy it.

Its ok. They could have done better though. Its very average ‘dad’ rock. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a dad and loving the ROCK of course!

Songs like bald and hazel eyes are much better!

That news just made my day. Good riddance.
Hope the rest of the band pack it in altogether as well.

Worked for Joy Division, when Barny took over vocals and they became New Order…

Having said that, though, a better parallel may be Queen - Imagine if, after Freddie’s clog-popping, John Deacon had taken over as frontman!

It wasn’t a musical comparison, it was a “can bands carry on after they lose a key member” comparison.

Of course I wouldn’t suggest that The Darkness are in the same league as JD.

One of them made fairly catchy songs ruined by a godawful singer with a terribly affected voice…

…the other was the Darkness!

NOW, Morrissey would have made a great singer for JD!

Sorry, but it ain’t the songs, it’s Curtis’ voice, it just grates :(

They were, of course, light years ahead of the Darkness, that goes without saying.

…so why I just said it, fuck knows.:(

*confused*

You can’t compare Joy Division and The Darkness. Ian Curtis was a miserable bastard who, after his death, turned into an icon for students and pretentious losers. I’m glad he killed himself. One less person going on about how unfair the world is.

Justin Hawkins on the other hand, though obviously going through a lot of inner turmoil, didn’t feel the need to inflict it upon the nation. Also, he had the ability to laugh at himself, something Curtis definately lacked.

I know who I like more.

Apparently the record label won’t answer thier phones so they’re not sure if they even have a band anymore!
I’m not a fan but that can’t be very nice…
People are going to laugh at them in the street!

Fair enough.

Though I am seriously sick of whining bands without a trace of irony or humour. What’s the point of them? What purpose do they serve other than to allow like-minded people to wallow in their (usually self-perpetuated) depression?

I like a bit of escapism in my music. I know how shit the world is when I turn on the news, I don’t wanna be reminded about it when I listen to music, a supposed form of entertainment.

I like both opinions.

Have to say, the singer in my band kept insulting me so I told him he was a Richey obsessed nobody-understands-me type who is really a mummy’s boy!!

And he went mental!

It was only a joke!

What is it with people and having to be like their tortured heroes?! Chances are you just want to be like them because of them, not in spite of them. If you let yourself be happy in life, chances are - you would be!

Disclaimer: And if anyone out there genuinely IS feeling distraught and an artist sums it all up for them then thats good - just make sure you get over it and come out the other side. Don’t wallow in it if you can help it.

Peace
