awesome! First disk has three shows (Live at the Rainbow -81 w/ Paul DiAnno), (Beast over Hammersmith- 82, great show even though it’s short), and some show from Germany in 83. Another great show but because the only source left was the TV feed, they cut Iron Maiden where they tore out Eddie’s brain.
overall they did a great job remastering the sound for these shows. Only gripe is they are kind of short(about 45min a pop)
The second disk has a 90 min documentary w/ interviews with just about every member of the band up through 83. Paul DiAnno chubbed out :)
Plus some British TV (not BBC but some local channel) documentary made in ‘79-‘80 talking about the re-emerging Heavy Metal scene, and they use Maiden as the example of the next new big thing.
This has a few of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. THey have these few geeks with cardboard guitars who go to these metal clubs and play air guitar…9.9 on the unintentional comedy scale.
A real cool thing on the second disk was a homemade video of a show at the Ruskin Arms a few days before Iron Maiden is released. The camerawork is so-so, but the sound is surprisingly good, and the show rocked. It is the only known video of Charlotte the Harlot and a few others off the first album.
Plus all the videos up through Piece of Mind are on there.
Highly recommended!!!

Just my fucking luck that I prefer the less popular latter stuff (always the way :( ) and even more typical of my luck that now they have got the old singer back on board..bugger!
Still, this is a pretty good DVD, not the biggest gig ever filmed in history, but a good performance and the sound is quite good too..
EDIT: Wanna get “Alive 2” DVD next, anyone able to give me a comparison between the two (in terms of sound/ picture/ extras rather than a comparison of the two incarnations of the band, I mean)?
