Best records of the year ?

#

Started by Ian Hayllar

As its that time of year again, and the nights are drawing in, people everywhere put together their Top 10 lists, so I thought I would put down my best albums of the year list and ask everyone else to do the same, in the interests of broadening our musical horizons (or confirming our own excellent taste) Anyway, heres mine, let us know what you all have in your top 10:

in no particular order.

KOSHEEN - Resist (this one is definitely my album of the year!!!)
THERAPY?- Shameless
LOSTPROPHETS - fakesoundofprogress
GARBAGE - Beautifulgarbage
FELIX DA HOUSECAT - Kitten and Thee Glitz
LOFIDELITY ALLSTARS - Dont be afraid of Love
FETTES BROT - Demo Tape
ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT - Group Sounds
HENRY ROLLINS - Nice
DUB PISTOLS - Six Million Ways…

The only albums I bought released this year are Shameless and Origin of Symetry (Muse). Although I did get Queens of the Stone Age’s first album, which is pretty good!
Everyone - buy ‘Sweaty Handshake’ by PET LAMB. ‘Cos it’s good. Very good.

Hayden released a new album this year? Wow, I’m an asshole. I don’t think I bought 10 albums this entire year, let alone 10 new ones, so here’s what I can think of:

1. Tea Party: Interzone Mantras
2. Treble Charger: Wide Awake Bored
3. Remy Zero (I didn’t buy it, but what I downloaded sounded good).

That’s it. I don’t buy too many CDs anymore.

i can’t say that i’ve heard anything new this year that would make me want to hear it till my ears bleed. i have a few comments though , 1) did you people honestly think exciter by depeche mode was a good album? i thought it was pretty dissapointing myself. 2) on a good note, it’s good to see that none of you mentioned the last two radiohead albums in your top 10 albums of the year. 3)how is it that one of you mentioned beautiful garbage by garbage as an album of the year? i challenge anyone to try to tell the difference of that cd and a brittany spears album.

Actually, Opal Mantra, I haven’t received my Interzone Mantras yet either. But I heard a good deal of the new album live over the summer, so I know it’ll be good. Have the Tea Party ever released a bad record?

Rene, good job on removing my double post. You must patrol that database like it’s your job.

i was the one who put beautifulgarbage in my top ten, I think its remarkable album considering the amount of venom in the lyrics…and its all packed up like pop music, sixties beats and electronics. Britney Spears, for all the hatred she gets is a perfect example of a female singer who is brilliant at what she does, whether you like it or not. I wouldnt knock her for it ! Garbage on the other hand have managed to make a wicked album dressed up in teenagers clothes…a lot more subversive and original that Korn, Limp Bizkit and all the shitty nu metal lot will ever be able to claim.

to Brendon: yeah Hayden released a new album last month… it’s only in Canada right now, so you’d have to order it from the net (and with the exchange rate it should cost ya next to nothing)…
anyway, the album is brilliant… many reviews are saying his best ever… if you want to download a couple of songs first, find: streetcar, dynamite walls, & bass song (which is about Hayden being murdered!)

to innocentx: i really like the new depeche mode… i think with all the ‘garbage’ that’s come out over the past little while, it was nice to buy an album that sounded familiar and reminded me of music i used to listen to… same reason why i really like the new order disc…
oh, and kid a by radiohead was in my top ten for last year… amnesiac on the other hand: not so good…

you thought that because he went in hiding for 3 years… after his last disc (the closer i get) didn’t do so well, and because he was never really happy with it in the first place (record company pressure) he decided to lay low, record in his basement again, and go with hardly any promotion with the new disc… it is truly is great… gets better with every listen…

if and when you pick it up, tell me… there is an amazing hidden song on the disc that i can help you find…

What about the biggest dissapointment of the year? For me it was Megadeth’s new album, along with Shameless ofcourse. However there were some albums which were unexpectedly good, like B.R.M.C.’s Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Slipknot’s Iowa.

Better reply late than never,

the three best albums of last year were in alphabetical order:

FRANK BLACK & THE CATHOLICS - Dog In The Sand
N*E*R*D - In Search Of…
NEW ORDER - GetReady

others albums that were pretty good are the ones by Weezer, Ash, Manics, Aaliyah, Therapy?, Slayer, Rammstein, Destiny’s Child and Radiohead. I still haven’t heard Depeche Mode but I’m sure it would make the list.
