I want to buy a gun.

#

Started by matthew

I’ve been robbed four times in the last eight months and I’ve had enough. I’m going to get a gun license because I’m fucking sick of the crime in my country. South Africa has the highest crime rate in the world. Some say we are going to get as fucked as Zimbabwe and reach an all time low of poverty and economic crisis. I don’t know, Nelson Mandela was our best president ever but he obviously couldn’t stop the greed and corruption in my country’s government. Man, I never thought I’d ever think of getting a gun, but I have to I’m fucked. Do any of you guys own a gun? Do you get Naringkos in the UK too? My friend says I shouldn’t get a revolver cause their crap but a semi-automatic is good. I don’t know dudes and dudettes I just need some serious safety. My spicy farts aren’t strong enough.

I’m not sure about the law in your country, but if you shot a robber in the UK then you’d probably be heading for a lengthy stretch in the slammer.

I saw a program once where they were discussing the car-jacking epidemic in South Africa, one of the leading security manufacturers had designed a car security system where you pressed a button on the dashboard and 3 foot high flames shot out of the side of the car to krunchy-fry anyone trying to knick your motor!

Apparently this was seen to be a legitemate way of preventing car jackings. In the UK we would probably lock our doors…

Its all about the criminal in the UK, not the victim. There was a case a couple of years back where a farmer disturbed an intruder and shot him as he ran away, and he was jailed for this. Eventually people power got him released, but the law still stands.

If you’ve got the law on your side i’d say go for it, but if not you’ll get into a whole heap of mess just for some thieving scumbag.

I thinking killing a burglar is going slightly too far!

Tony Martin deserved to go to prison - he shot both burglars, killing one and maiming the other as they were trying to escape out the window!

In Ireland recently, an old farmer shot dead a ‘traveller’ on his land who was robbing him (for the 3rd time).

The farmer was jailed for 6 years on manslaughter.

Totally fucked up in my opinion - if someone is trespassing on your land with the intent of stealing or intimidation, then I reckon he’s fair game to having his life ended.

I think the point is ‘reasonable force’

if house owners had weapons then all robbers would be armed and it would just get worse… but I think if they are in your house knicking your stuff they are fair game for a good twatting.

The last thing this country needs is a gun culture like the US - look how fucked up things are there.

i’m not saying kill first ask questions later, i’m just saying that in the UK if someone enters your property illegally with the intent of harm, you have no leg to stand on legally should you react to the situation. So i’m just saying to Matthew that if his laws are the same as the UKs then save yourself the bother and don’t buy a firearm!
If, however, the laws are similar to that of the US’s then go gun crazy boy!

…and the burglar who lived tried to sue Mr Martin for loss of earnings, event though the only job he had done for years was burglary and drug dealing.

If you break in to sombody’s home, you should expect this sort of thing!

Except Canada has more guns per person than the U.S. and very very few homicides by them. When people say “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, it doesn’t mean that guns aren’t lethal. It means that when a culture is brought up to be afraid of everyone else and cope with hate, they are more likely to respond to that fear and hate with force.

Violence in culture through the media, my friends. Fear truly is a mind killer.

Oh right - so you’re saying he deserved it!

No, you’re right. Let’s bring back hanging, start chopping off shoplifters’ hands, and stone women to death for infidelity as well.

I live near Tony Martin and i’m glad he taught the thieving gypsy’s a lesson. I totally believe in capital punishment, esp in our society where people are free to do as they please and totally remorseless anyway.

As for the gun issue - maybe a Arnie style minigun (T2) would do the trick!

Do you not believe in any form of punishment other than prison? Cos i gotta tell you, i’m all for bringing the death penalty back.

:(, that statement makes me really sad. How can you support a punishment like this. It’s murder. Do you support murder as well?

Not too surprising when one of Therapy’s most popular tunes includes the lyric “all people are shit” :)

I think a lot of people on these boards identified with Troublegums lyrics, even if Andy didn’t mean them so literally.

Depends who’s getting murdered! Seriously though, mine is an extreme opinion i know, and i don’t expect anyone to agree with me, but i think that if you commit a wicked crime (paedophilia for example) you should pay the ultimate price.

But like i say, just an opinion. ;)

The death penalty does not serve as a deterrent to murderers and child abusers (who we weren’t talking about in the first place anyway - the discussion was about burglars).

Plus, there have been so many recorded miscarriages of justice and under the death penalty those innocent people would have been murdered.

Taunty Dan wrote:

how do we know that the death penalty isn’t a detterent to child abusers and murderers? we don’t have the death penalty!

And i seriously doubt that the recorded cases of innocents being given the death penalty is any comparison to the amount of serious criminals who’ve been released and reoffended.

You seem to now be arguing that all people convicted of a ‘serious crime’ should be executed on the possibility that they might reoffend if released. Which is either absurd or very scary, I’m not yet sure which.

Yes we had the death penalty, and are you telling me that things are better since we abolished it?
Yes the Americans have the death penalty AND a high crime rate, but surely if they didn’t have the death penalty they’d have a HIGHER crime rate?!

What i’m trying to say about reoffenders is that, say, take for example someone who’s raped and murdered someone. They get sent to prison for a bit, then upon release they do it again. What then? Put them back in prison?!

You make it sound like i want every criminal in the land killed! I’m talking extreme cases.

mr self destruct wrote:

Surely the US would have a higher crime rate if they didn’t have the death penalty? Bollocks - only certain states have the death penalty and the states that don’t still have comparable rates of violent crime!

As for your second point, I’d like you to give some examples of people who have raped and murdered someone and then been sent to prison just “for a bit”. They would be sent to prison for a long time, and during their imprisonment they would undergo rehabilition and therapy. They’re only released when judged no longer a risk, those that are incurable are never released (i.e. Ian Brady)

You’ve changed the argument anyway - you were originally arguing for death as punishment, now you’re arguing for death as a public safety measure. Which is it to be?

Don’t you read the papers? Watch the news? Every day people are reoffending!

When i said “prison for a bit” it was a figure of speech man…

My argument is still for punishment, i was merely commenting that if they reoffend they haven’t learned anything have they?

Besides, i’m only voicing an opinion based on my knowledge and experience, i don’t have all the answers! I feel like i’m sitting an exam!

Mr self destruct you seem very touchy about the British Legal System. Its almost as if you believe it works…

Quite the opposite - which is one reason I would never want to see the death penalty reintroduced. Which is a point I already made
