Stories Behind The Songs

#

Started by Dermot (The Derm)

Hi guys,

I know this has been asked before (and I know the guys are obviously pretty busy at the mo!) but are there any plans for the stories behind the rest of the albums to be posted?

I’m only asking cos the Babyteeth one was SO darn good. I’d be most interested in reading about Nurse… think that’d be a good ‘un!

Cheers

Yes, there are plans to have stories for the rest of the albums. I refuse to comment on the timescale of that operation though ;)

“Bump” is the universal language on messageboards to bring threads to peoples’ (usually the mods’) attention.

Call yourself a geek?

Oh, wait… :o

Hold on - maybe we could write the stories behind the songs ourselves!

Larne, Northern Ireland, early 1995 - I was just mucking about in my hometown basically looking for a shop that sold fake moustaches and thinking about firing my drummer for getting to paranoid on pot. I was walking through the town streets in a bitter wind, chain rolling Drum mild cigarettes, and headed for nowhere in particular. Then for some reason I felt inexorably drawn towards my old high school. As it grew dark, I thew my padded jacket down and vaulted over the old wire fence into Larne High. I heard the sound of a child crying coming from one of the classrooms. Against my better instincts I walked towards the wailing until it got so close it was ear-splittingly loud. Of all places, I found myself in my old classroom - 3B. The crying was coming from the broom cupboard. I remembered how my cruel classmates used to lock a boy in the broom cupboard. Seriously freaking out now, I thought of a riff that suited the situation. It went something like this: “Der-ner-ner Der-ner-ner.” I threw open in the cupboard. It was a naked boy sitting in his own urine. He was obscene. He was Jude. I ran away from that place and never looked back until I was safely tucked up in bed. Thus, Jude The Obscene was born.”

I’m sure hitting my stats today! :D

:D Love it. Can we have an unofficial stories behind the songs link, Hooch? :D

(And I know what ‘bump’ means, I was pretending for comedic effect. Ruined that, though, didn’t you. :p)

There’s a bit of an interesting story there, actually. The music for Jude the Obscene was written years earlier, for Andy’s other band Catweazle (which also had Michaels brother Charlie on drums). I’m not sure about the lyrics, though I definately remember Andy explaining all the songs from Infernal Love in some magazine at the time?.

Maybe, someone (read: mods) could dig that article out? ;) It was probably Kerrang or Raw, I think.
