Well , I like the cover but I seem to be one of a few.
Maybe it’s the age , we old-schoolers like a cover where we can at least make out what it is supposed to be , and this is undoubtedly a woman’s face. And one of the not-so-happy kind even , which makes it more ‘metal’ , hell yes!
Looks more like this topic started off with one individual not liking it and all the rest just followed his example to avoid a debate on modern day Art and the likes.
One thing , if you think OCFA’s cover is bad , I suppose you pick some old vinyl out of your da’s attic and look up what Manowar’s ‘Anthology’ or Black Sabbath’s ‘Sabotage’ originally looked like. Now THAT was rubbish.

I still don’t like it but at least its better than the Infernal Love artwork. For me it’s the sign of a band out of ideas when they just put a band photo on the front of a CD. Really uninventive.
Glad they haven’t done that again.

I’m one of the few who likes it too. I think it looks pretty Warholian as Michael says, and deliberately looks ‘amateurish’ as some are suggesting, not the hyper-stylised rubbish art that some bands are churning out for thier artwork. the ‘amatuerish’ art is just part of the bands’ aesthethic, and implies feral, primal rock, not the psuedo-intellectual shit that Infernal Love cover implied whith its sepia cover.
I personally hate Anton Corbijns work of late, the Infernal Love covers were unispired in my eyes. whatever about the music, that is for another thread. I think the image is arresting, purposely cheap looking, reflective of pop art and pop culture (thats why all the Orlaith/Anna Nicole Smith references keep coming up) and also signals a break from the norm. Definately my fave cover in years.

I think you are underestimating folk a bit here, most people on here are adults and know their own mind. I doubt many people posted to say that they dont like it just because of the opinions aired in the first post.
As an album cover - I dont think it is up to much, however, at the end of the day for me its the songs that count - that’s not to say an album cover is unimportant.
I remember first listening to Troublegum purely because the cover intrigued me.

I guess you didn’t change that much, but I find it amazing how much more I like that. Maybe it’s just primarly the colour that puts my initial impression of the actual cover so low.

I like the new cover a lot: it’s freaky like Misanthropologist said (we agree once more) and it’s very confronting. Imagine a 2 square metres poster in a record store. Who could walk past it?
