Classic albums of the past 10 years

#

Started by King Caffeinebomb I

I have a long standing discussion open with a good friend of mine that there have been no solid gold classic albums released in the last 10 years.

Troublegum, Earth Vs and Nevermind were all pre-96 and we can’t think of any post-96 album that can stand up with these three and be counted.

That’s the benchmark and I welcome all suggestions - For your information only - Happy Nation by Ace of Base was released pre-96 too.

Not that I’m trying to afford it the same status you understand.

I’d say The Easy Way Out by Fixit Kid, but hey, I’d be sounding like a broken record :D

Do you want albums we consider classic or generally considered to be classic?

Oh yeah, just thought - Relationship Of Command by At The Drive-In is seen as a classic critically, I’d say.

Songs For The Deaf - QOSTA
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
And some damn fools would say The Libertines - Up The Bracket. But not me!

I guess it’s down to individual taste. What makes a record a classic for each person.

Primus- Antipop. My personal favourite album of all time.

CKY- Volume 1 and IDR. Their other 2 aren’t really ‘solid gold’ albums, but still good.

Therapy?- SPYF (not to mention basically all their other releases since 1996).

Akira Yamaoka- Silent Hill OST 1-4

QOTSA- Songs for the Deaf

SOAD- SOAD and Toxicicy

Ween- Quebec

Corrigan- How to Hang Off a Rope

Underline- Your Skinny Neck Friends and Is This Yours?

there’s many more, but they’re mostly quite hard to find. There’s less and less good albums every year.

to the few people that bought them maybe! who regards Pinkerton as a classic? It was universally hated when it came out and bombed commercially too. I’m not saying its a bad album, but to be a classic doesn’t it have to define something, either a style, an era, a way of thinking or whatever?

The album was OK but I’d hardly say it’s a classic by any stretch of the imagination…plus I saw them live and they were really shit.

its glaringly apparent that one cannot conceal ones priveleged upbringing and therefore cannot relate to, how you say? “word on the street”. Marvellous language though it is.
