danko jones in helsinki

#

Started by choi

Did any of you see Danko Jones at Tavastia this Monday? It was so amazing! I’m looking forward to seeing them again in Ruisrock! If not sooner, I might be going to some other gigs as well, funds and work permitting. And ‘Sleep is the enemy’ - if you haven’t got it yet, go and buy it now!!! It will blow your mind! My fave track at the moment is ‘Time heals nothing’- it’s also the soundtrack to my life…well, for now at least.

Hey great that other Therapy? fans as myself know good R&R when they hear it!Will see Danko in Utrecht,my adopted city, Friday nite,a sellout. Saw him in A’dam last year at Jack Daniels tour(as Therapy? in 2 weeks, I’ll be there) and brilliant and funny in a slightly(?)sexist way.I’m old enuff to hear Thin Lizzy in there among others. Really nice guy too, spent time after gig talking and signing stuff(including my girls chest!). Hope to chat again tomorrow. ‘Born A Lion” is a great album for the uninitiated, but all the stuff is great.

Hi Choi, im assuming your a Finn…my girl is big into those Finnish favorites H.I.M. Nightwish, a little Rasmus and 69 Eyes in a big,big way.Any idea why 69Eyes never come to Holland? What I’ve seen they are pretty good. We saw that drunken waster Ville Valo last November, but the Eyes have it, wats the story?
http://www.soofsuperspeed.bravehost.com/ is my Sophies’ website on H.I.M. loads of great photos, vids and news (but she’s running low on bandwidth), if your a fan i hope you enjoy. She is Dutch/Hungarian and her dream is to visit the Tavastia Club, and to have Villes’ baby if he can get it up, i’m a ‘Scottish Bastard’ by all accounts, just for that international flavour!!
Anyhow, any other greats you can recommend for a listen? Do you know any vampires?

dreams can come true, I’m Belgian and I’ve been to Tavastia, Saw Katatonia (they’re swedish but I reckon your Sophie will love) there once, it’s a nice place. Other big klubi in H is Nosturi, a pal of mine works there as a soundman. BTW early spring is the perfect time to visit Helsinki. So pack your bags and go.
Cool Finnish bands there ar a-plenty but Sentenced and Insomnium are a bit heavier than the ones mentioned earlier but also carry that melancholic vibe. Totally cool is Viikate, vocals are sung in Finnish but I’m a sucker for that weird melancholic suicide calypso vibe they’ve got going on.

You are so correct on your describe on Viikate. I like them alot too, I have all their stuff except vinyls and have seen them a couple of times live.

Here’s a few great finnish bands (well, to me)

Amorphis
They released an new album called “Eclipse” a few weeks ago and now that they have a new singer it is awesome band! They are playing on Neckbreakers Ball 2006 in europe go check them out if you can.

Verenpisara
They play samekind of music like Viikate but there is not so much “twang” in their guitars and there is an exceptional singer called Rami Raski. They sing in finnish and they have alot finnish melancholy in their tunes.

Ajattara
Cannot discribe their music, it’s quite heavy as the vocals are sung by death-metal style. They also sing in finnish but they do the lyrics in the “old-style” they use really old words and sentence-structures that is used rarely in everyday life nowadays. Ajattara also has a new album out called Äpäre (“Bastard child”).

Amorphis and Ajattara has myspace sites where you can listen a few songs…

heard that Danko Jones song “First date” from his latest album yesterday and it was good!
Seems that Danko is a big friend of Finland as he is touring here all the time. I remember that he was here a couple of years ago three times during one year, which is nice for his fans:)!

Hi sdstim,
Yes, I am a Finn… and here’s some of my faves

The Slideshaker

Slideshaker are a bit like (The Jon Spencer) Blues Explosion, only on drugs, best experienced live…

And Boomhauer, you gotta love them
http://koti.mbnet.fi/b-hauer/

Not to mention Thee Ultra Bimboos, everyone’s favourite all-girl-garage-rock- band
http://www.theeultrabimboos.com/

I still got massive bruising, courtesy of the front row riot fence Danko gig - but it was so worth it! Check out the pics!

I’m most likely going to see Danko in BXL two weeks from now, any other WoMbles going to be there?
Other interesting gig: Primordial in the Biebob a few days before, Irish melancholy in doom/black metal jacket. Gathering Wilderness was one of my faves from last year.
Checking the new Ajattara right now, sounds like the others so far, this means good but I own Itse and probably it’s going to stay with that.
