Cobain

#

Started by King Caffeinebomb I

I didn’t realise until I switched on Kerrang tv that today is the 12th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain.

Anyone have any thought on the matter?

Crikey, who would have thought a bit of his music was worth $50million to a junkie useless woman of a whore and that whe owned 98% of all royalties. What did she ever do?

I was talking about music to some college kids who work in my store and asking the “metal” kids about Therapy? and the Wildhearts.

More than one said that they would ask their parents because they would know about the old stuff.

Welcome to Dadrock people.

I work in one (I’m a filthy student after all) but do impose my music tastes on people by regular trips to the jukebox. So Wildhearts, Therapy?, This Is Menace, Levellers and various others are regularly playing in the Courtyard at Bradford Union :D

it’s not just Kurt, oddly enough today is the 4th anniversary of the late great Layne Staley’s death, hence i have the entire Alice in Chains and Nirvana back catalogues stacked on my desk ready to be blasted far too loud

24…I can live with that :)

The anniversary of Staley’s death as well? I remember feeling sadder about his death than Cobain as I thought it was more tragic…

Aaaargh… the ‘yoof’ will look at our record collections with disapproval in the same way we used to see bands like Marillion, Magnum, Saxon, Meatloaf…

Aaaaargh :(

When I was in Dublin in 2004 December for the T? gig, I met a bunch of sixteen year olds who thought High Anxiety was their first album (before the gig obviously, i think they would have copped on after the set-list) so T? are still reaching the yoof, but the yoof will forever be naive. I’m nineteen and have been listening to T? for eight years. What does that make me?

I’d forgotten he’d died - I thought he’d popped off years before - his was such a predictable thing though. He was a lost case for a very long time.

Don’t know about more tragic, but I think it’s a shame that Staley’s death was so unnoticed. He was such a great talent and his death was a waste. I wish they were both still around, Cobain and him. Of course, then Nirvana would probably only be a footnote in MTV’s version of the history of rock ‘n’ roll.
