I just heard - maybe unfairly - that they’re heavy going. Started reading Name Of the Rose (?) but decided a few pages in I’ve read too many tomes for my own good and need to start reading lighter stuff.
Started reading the Da Vinci Code - thought it was too light (bit snobbish but so what) - so settled for good ol’ Chuck.

Yeah, that’s very true. Name of the Rose is actually the lightest of Eco’s books (that I’ve read), but worth it, in my opinion.
I’ll do you a deal. If you burn your copy of the Da Vinci Code, I won’t make you read anything by Eco. ;)

Yep, and it’s crap. Still better than getting run over by a bus though… just! Hope you liked it.

Those are the three that I’ve read, and I’d say Foucault’s Pendulum is my favourite by far. Was a little disappointed by The Island… to be honest. Not that it was bad at all, I was just expecting more. I’m planning on getting Baudolino next. Not sure what other non-fiction he’s actually done.

The lady lent me this…read half it and then didn’t bother reading the rest. If I wanted to read a religious parable I’d read the Bible! (Before burning it, of course ;)) :D

To be honest I don’t read much fiction anymore, mainly political/humour stuff. So I would say Fat Land which Dan mentioned, I think, or another book called Fast Food Nation.
But you like completely different kind of stuff to me and might read two pages and then burn them. Maybe put a curse on me as well, using your wizard potions, I’m not sure ;)

nah, only if you were going to recommend Dan Brown, and I don’t think that’s likely.
Besides, my ‘to buy’ list is huge, I could put anything you suggest on it in good faith, and years from now it might still be unread. ;)
