Primus

Primus are so cool. Some say they are crap because their tunes are so damn funked out! And Les is a real weirdo. But we dont want any old lead singer do we?
All their drummers have been great!
I’ll kill the painters that came into our house and stole Antipop from me! Funnily enough that album I consider to be a little sell out considering they got bands who were trendy to produce the album in certain songs. That would be Limp Bizkit!
Have any of you guys got their DVD animals should not try to act like humans or something?

Hmm… where to begin. Primus are cool, sure, but to use that as your only adjective is a spit in the face of gretness. ‘Funked out’?! ‘FUNKED OUT’?!!!! Yeah, they have funky moments, sure; but check your media player genre list- Primus are Primus, defying genre and cultures. I’ve never heard anyone say they’re crap because they’re ‘funked out’. Les is not a weirdo- he’s a real, genuine, nice guy and a phemonenon to boot. Who are ‘we’ exactly, who don’t want any old lead singer? les’ voice adds something unique and an extra layer of melody and also a whole new concept of disbelief that he’s busting out these riffs… while singing. You’ll ‘kill’ your builders, huh. Doubt it. Very unorigional threat. Antipop… Antipop… the greatest album ever made by mortal men. ‘A LITTLE SELL OUT???!!!!!!’ A little fucking SELL OUT?! LIKE IT FUCKING MATTERS!!! ARRRGH! And why, dear GOD why did you ‘consider’ it so? because they got Limp Bizkit to produce it, and they only did that because Limp Bizkit were trendy… The album was made in 1996. Limp Bizkit were NOT big, or trendy. It wasn’t even limp Bizkit- it was Fred Durst, and only one song, which still rocks despite his interference (or, maybe for all his talentlessness, he’s actually a good producer). It just goes to show, when you draw this minor indiscression to the forefront and completly ignore the fact that they had TOM WAITS as a geust producer for another song, as well as geust vocals on a different one. I bet you’ve never even HEARD of Tom Waits. And your dismissive ham-fisted nuisance crap question if anyone has the DVD ‘Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People’ (that’s what it’s called)… don’t even get me started. Oh, wait you have. It sickens me.

As a final point, please ignore everything above this. None of what I have just written was meant to be taken seriously, it is in fact, a severly exaggerated hyperbole of my own feelings on the matter. I just thought it’d be funny to be a complete asshole for a while. Have a good day.

Hi there. Hope I didnt offend you and sound like I dont like Primus or something. Trust me I like weird and the more of it in rock the better! Would prefer it if more rock bands were so unique and well weird. Let me get iffy too and say that Les’s voacls are hardly melodic and there are plenty of bassists that are more melodic and play stunning bass at the same time. Mike King of Level 42 for example.
Dude who fucking cares how I threaten my builders, maybe shoving a paint tin up their asses sideways would be original enough for you? Who cares how many songs Tom Waits guested on, it has nothing to do with the fact that Antipop was embarassingly the most pop record they’ve ever made. Duh. Did you realise that they also had Tom Morello as a producer on one of the tracks too?? Ever heard of him?
I know Fred Durst produced the track lacquerhead so dont bother with the shit throwing.

But I enjoyed your post, try again! haha

OK… Antipop shows Primus as their very best- mixing pure headbanging rock with insane funk riffage and a hearty dose of weirdness better than on any of their other albums before or afterward. Just because it’s more definably ‘music’ than their other albums doesn’t mean its poppy- not by a long shot. They take pop music on at its on game- infusing it with Primus style and destroying it from within. They killed Nu metal before it even happened with this album. And yeah, I noticed Tom Morello on there- lets be honest here, they’re names aren’t hard to miss- they’re on the tracklist next to the song names. And laquerhead is still a great song. And Dirty Drowning Man is amazing.

Oh so now you say their weird. Mske your mind up.
What makes you think their other albums arent seen as music, they are extremely musical and creative. That’s one way of dissing your fav band dude. If they are…
Yeah I like Lacquerhead too and I wish I had that whole album again as it was one of my favourites in my collection. But because you are a know it all and everybody must bow down to you Im sure you have a bigger collection than everybody else on the planet and nobody can argue with you or chat and have fun discussing other bands right??

Wait a second that’s what we are already dong, or are we.
I type like a motherfucker with 2 fingers who needs 8. teehee kidding.

in “animals …” they are their own support band. playing some fav tunes and after that they play the whole song list from the “frizzle fry” album. just nice!

Primus is one of these bands (perhaps the only one?), that just defines their own type of music, just by playing it.

Hope they get back to europe, at least austria :) But Les just tours with his solo stuff and other projects in america. :(

Beat me to it…

Oh, thanks for the compliaments, matthew. I am indeed a god among among men as you say. But don’t call me Mr. Know-it-All. I don’t see how I called them weird, btw, I just said they had their own style, and there’s a big difference between saying they aren’t musical, and saying that they do things that defy the conventions of music.

From Frizzle Fry through to Pork Soda it was cool and a breath of fresh air but they, for me,started going downhill with Tales From The Punchbowl and then “Herb” bailed and then “Brain” came along and is a cool drummer, but I never regained interest.Just recently started listening to some of the older stuff again.Anti-Pop was just a terrible album all around.Seems like they had no ideas and got all these different people to produce the songs cuz of no inspiration whatsoever.

Brown Album would be good if it had decent production. It’s basically their St. Anger.

That’s Tales From the Punchbowl. Not their greatest moment, but some top-quality stuff on there.
