i was thinking about this the other day, and i realized that it’s impossible to choose.

obviously Neil gets a nod because he’s actually in the band now, but Fyfe and Graham were both incredible drummers, and both brought a lot to the band.

i was more upset when Fyfe left than when Graham left.

if forced, i think i’d say Fyfe > Neil > Graham. but it’s so close as to be almost irrelevant.

Let me put it this way, my least favourite line-up was Andy, Michael, Martin and Graham. What my favourite line-up is I couln’t possibly tell but fact is that the line-up WITH Fyfe got me into THERAPY? so I guess that would be my favourite.

I think that all were brilliant drummers but went for Fyfe with Neil being a very close second.

I am a more of a fan of heavier music and I just feel that Therapy? rocked alot harder with both of these drummers.

Graham is a skilled player, but just not as inventive as Fyfe and no were near as heavy as Neil that is all.

Wasn’t too sad to see Graham leave, but still dig the albums he played on - think he was best on Semi Detached and also digged 60 Watt Bulb

I’m not a drummer but i’ve played in a few bands (guitars) and i must say that Neil is really an extraordinary drummer. But hey so is Fyfe and Graham. But, to me, Therapy with Neil is my favorite line-up. Check “Rise up”, “Sprung”… Man! He’s unbelievable!

Maybe, their own differences are their sound’s drums.

Ever heard of overplaying? In my opinion Neil over plays too much on NANE, but I dont have High Anxiety yet so who knows. Dont have the first few therapy? albums either but do have infernal and troublegum and fyfe’s drumming on those is so simple and hardly creative. I like Graham on suicide pact, wonderful energy there.

Dunno, I think it is the overplaying that makes it different and exciting. Am used to having a crazy rhythym section in my Therapy? - didn’t happen with Graham.

Fyfe = Simple??? Wouldn’t say that now…

voted for graham, i think neil and fyfe are to “messy” someone said earlier that fyfe used complex patters to keep up with the pace of the song and i agree, i also think that fyfe used to do that, i think graham is a more refined drummer, maybe too refined for rock ‘n roll, he would be great in a band like morphine or something more mellow, don’t know..

Maybe it’s time for Andy and Michael to look for a new drummer about now. Fyfe and Graham stayed for 3 albums each (not counting EPs), so “OCFA” should be Neil’s last album.

:p just kidding

I think to determine which drummer is better we’d need to all have them lined up and see who’s the last one standing in a winner-takes-all style single elimination booze drinker!

I think Graham has the most traditional rock-drum sound. That’s good for some things, but I’m not terribly fond of it or really excited about it. Fyfe and Neil’s styles are more to my liking. Of course, perhaps I’m biased about Fyfe (we’re all biased about everything we know anything about, it’s part of embracing the innate subjective of all that we perceive) since I’ve been listening to Therapy? for uhm.. about 12 years now I guess. But I think that Neil confirms that that direction is just something that excites me. I guess Neil is the most technical (though, I’m using old sounds of Fyfe to compare this, I have no idea how advanced he is at the time of writing.) But I dont think that’s very decisive in terms of who’s better.

In summary, I’m just very glad Neil came along.. but the foundations of Therapy?’s drum sound rests with Fyfe’s beats.

i know what you mean, but i like that. sort of gives it a psychotic feel…

i don’t know - fyfe set a pretty high standard with babyteeth, pleasuredeath and nurse. i don’t think the drumming on troublegum and infernal love is bad at all - infact i quite like it. it definately is more mainstream though - as these albums are much more mainstream than the early releases so the drumming fits in i guess. still think the drumming on isolation is the tits though…

Yeah, the whole rhythym section lost a lot of power an innovation if you ask me. Still, wouldn’t change the albums Graham played on.

Like Neil’s drumming on OCFA.

I don’t really think any of them are ‘better’ as such, they’ve all had their moments.

Fyfe - Babyteeth / Nurse
Graham - Suicide Pact
Neil - NANE

What interests me was hearing Graham play Fyfe’s work, and Neil playing all of it. Graham never sounded comfortable with Teethgrinder amogst others, but gave some of the Troublegum songs a new lease of life. Neil sounded (to me) like he was still trying to make himself comfortable on HA, but delivered a monster of a performance on NANE. His Teethgrinder kicks some serious arse as well. I think from a drum perspective, Suicide Pact is probably the most under-appreciated T? LP of the lot - there’s some fucking intense stuff going on there. Neil certainly seems to have helped inject some energy back into the band anyways. End of the day, T? wouldn’t be the T? they are today without any of those three guys, so love and respect to each of them.

FYFE WAS OUTSTANDING !

GROOVY ! Before each chorus of most of the songs (there is like a hole) you want to make a big big big big JUMP !

IMHO, Neil is has a lot of quality (enduring, untiring, sympatic) but soundlike a machine…compared to Fyfe, there is no breath in his style.
it’s ok for the new stuff, but not for the old ones.

I love you nevertheless Neil! if they choosed you this is because you’re the man at the moment!

cheers

i love Neil but i have on gripe with him which is that he always fucks up the end of Church Of Noise, the bit after the bridge when it kicks back in is identical to the intor of Screamager, but he never gets it right live, still an awesome drummer though, as is Graham

I ve voted for Fyfe. I was able to see T? with all three of them in past years. But noone brought more power to the songs then Fyfe. As I see it his style is kind of unique. I was always wondering how all the songs written past Infernal Love would sound with Fyfe on drums !!!

I really like Neil and Graham either but I guess Therapy? would sound better with Fyfe and his drumset today. Fyfe made a big part of T? and left big foot prints to step in after he left. And I think that is maybe one reason why T? havent got that much success as they deserve. Graham and Neil wasnt really able to fill this foot prints. But I am really happy that Graham and Neil took place and helped T? going on !! All albums they recorded are great either.

Ok, I guess this was discussed already in any other threads. So people, go on :)

And yeah in my opinion Fyfe is the best drummer T? ever had.

I just got OFCA on import yesterday and once again I’m not digging Neils drumming.I really liked his playing on HA but slowly his stuff is going the Fyfe way with sound and the high end snare. Also the drums seem to get buried in the mix on the album.Don’t get me wrong he’s a good drummer but his stuff isn’t doing it for me in T?But then again i’m a big Graham fan and his drums were always up front and sounded good…Neils don’t sound that great.Ok that’s my rant about the album.
