And in the end we still do not have the information for the thread-starter.

Only a mini-flame-war and a petition to have a cribs-episode filmed about a member of T?.

Meh, the thread was much more interesting this way!

And as for that list of gigs, how come that Kerrang! didn’t print the fact that they played Cardiff? I am not happy about that.

As for T?’s wealth, well, I don’t think that’s any of our business, but some data on sales for all bands wouldn’t go amiss.

From that whole list of gigs I was only at two, Southampton and Swindon, which seems like a poor effort.

Who was at the most of these gigs?

Sales figures I think are pretty good over all for T?

How the guys are doing money-wise I have absolutely no interest in and , as said before , is not our business.
What matters to me is that T? could probably have done better financially if they would have sold out to a bigger record company and struck a multi-million deal.
However , there are still bands like T? that are in it for the love of making music ( call it artistic ambition ) and not to make as much bucks as possible by bending over to all and sundry.

For that , brothers , I have the utmost respect.

Now bring on that CD and tour !

I think you’ll find that the record company split and no majors wanted them so they had to go it alone, but, yeah, respect for that.
Ps if no-one wants to know about finances, why did loads of people ask?! Thought you might like that i shared what i knew, i wasn’t being vindictive and nor was the guy when he told me!

On my searches for sales figures I did find a site that lists all chart positions if anyone is interested.

Just search for Therapy? with format on All on: http://www.everyhit.com

Didn’t realise Troublegum got to number 5 and IL to 9. Pretty cool.

Still no sales figures though.

Well, there’s was an interview on a German show - I think when Ten year plan came out, where Andy was saying that the major contract they started out with was about 90.000 pounds. Andy said they could have went for 300.000, but had to surrender “creative control” then. Dunno the details, how are these contracts done in the music business anyway? E.g. how much money get artists directly from their CD-sales? I have no idea, most of the time I only notice some sums for work on a specific number of albums.

Artists get a percentage, generally 8p per song so on a 12 track album the writer gets 96p per album sold.Unless you’re a pop muppet like Will Young who are guaranteed huge sales so they are offered deals where the Rec Co takes much more.

To come back to the theme of touring and money:

Yes most bands do make the majority of their living from touring, but of course the amount they make will vary depending on a number of things.
In particular, where Therapy? are concerned, they will not make large sums out of touring due to the fact that a) they (unfortunately) do not have the status to fill large capacity venues and b) they do not charge ridiculous amounts of money for their gigs.

U2 and the Stones make great money off their tours, but when you charge £70-£80 per ticket and sell 12,000 - 80,000 tickets per gig, well, you’re gonna, ain’t you?!

Therapy? and Motorhead HAVE to tour regularly to keep afloat, but they also have to record regularly to keep regular fans interested, or else the touring dries up too.

Discussion point: Therapy? are one of the most hardworking band in the industry.

Children, discuss.

Has there ever really been that long between announcing an album, recording thw album, promoting the album, touring, and announcing another album?

It seems some bands just disappear off the face of the earth for a couple of years and suddenly leap back with another album.

I seem to spend a lot of time in some state of excitement with T?.

Does anyone know what sort of sales figures T? have got from their albums?

I’m doing a bit of research but don’t really know where to look. I’m particularly interested in the difference in sales of Troublegum and NANE. Seem to remember 500,000 being a figure for Troublegum and Infernal Love being similar.

Anyone know?

ive just found out upto now that troublegum sold 2 million worldwide, seriously.

Okay let’s do the math here, crappy labels usually means poor album sales, hardly any coverage in large selling mags like Kerrang and Mteal Hammer and NME numbs the sales quite a bit. No video coverage on MTV Europe, albums not distributed in the US=no video play i the US and no radio play in the US. No radio play of therapy? in my country. Im not sure if there is much radio play of therapy? in UK you tell me, there must be plenty of them in Ireland though.
Troublegum sold 2 million wordlwide and that was in 1994/1995 if Im not mistaken, the recognition from that album has certainly laid off considering it is now 2006.
Infernal Love did pretty well. Was semi-detached released after infernal, I dont even know, but if it was I presume it did relatively well as well due to the commotion that was still about from infernal. But since then therapy? have fallen into oblivion prety much due to crap record labels and not being able to distribute in the US. The only therapy? albums Ive ever come across in CD shops, is one copy of Troublegum and one copy of semi-detached, nothing for the others Im afraid perhaps there wasnt a demand.
It’s important to note that a lot of the American rock mags are popular in Europe and Africa as well but due to therapys lack of label support that chance of exposure got completely screwed. Therapy seriously need a label for the states and they need one cover story from Metal Hammer LOL!
I know it sounds crazy but imagine what a cover page story would do for therapy?’s sales and word of mouth. I swear therapy? need tis like a baby needs a nappy for God’s sake.Without they are doomed.
Maybe wit the new album the mags will wake up and give them some recognition.
