Oh hooray. Finally got OCFA today from HMV.
But I am in work now and have a picture of a woman gritting her teeth on my desk, but not been able to listen to it yet. Will put it on on the way home.

Hm, yeah. I’m in the ‘underwhelmed’ camp, but I’m enjoying it nontheless. I suppose my problem with it is there’s no surprise anywhere. More than anything, it sounds like a distillation of all the band’s strengths, which makes it a solid themeatic record, but the only time I thought ‘wow’ on the whole album was at how good Sprung was. It’s just a bunch of decent songs…
Sprung, Dopamine, Unconsoled, Our White noise, Private Nobody = great. Deluded Son is good, and I can’t even remember how the others sound. :/

Just bought the album - whoooo!

Loving Sprung, Lose It All, Into the Light and the line ‘My dog tags read Leave Me alone’ from Private Nobody!

Somebody mentioned they weren’t fond of the chorus lyrix repeating one line over and over and i have to agree - its really annoying on Unconsoled especially. I can’t stand ‘DSA’ and Walk Thru Darkness;’ isnt as epic as T? probably think it is. Overall, its …ok so far. Sorry.

The idea that some albums immediately sound good, then seem to get boring after a while, then others sound unremarkable but then really grow on you and become classic, is interesting with OCFA.

This is because I think OCFA is right in the middle of these opposites. Overall I thought it might have been too immediate, but the more I listen the more I’m feeling it grow on me. I didn’t like Private Nobody, Fear Of God (Fenriz, give it a chance, it rules!) or Heart break Hits at all at the start, but now I’m starting to love them.

I also think Unconsoled, Sprung and Our White Noise are the best tracks.

Hmm.. my judgment so far.

Sprung: Excellent! I love Neil’s playing on this one. It’s really bouncy.

Deluded Son: This song is growing on me. The riff is shamelessly pop-ish and the chorus is very simple. I think the “repeat-the-same-line-again-and-again” works wonderfully on this track.

Into The Light: This song kills. The riff is not very typical for a Therapy? song. All in all: a nice surprise!

Lose It All: As of now, this track bores me. Of course, the song sounds massive and it rocks hard, but it lacks memorable melody lines and unlike “Into The Light” the riff isn’t strong enough to carry the song IMO.

Dopamine, Seratonin, Adrenaline: There’s something about this song that moves me. I LOVE Andy’s singing on this one. It’s really heartfelt and despite the simplicity of the music, it bears a really strong majestic grandeur. The “So scared of dying..” part gives me goosebumps everytime.

Unconsoled: This song has a jazzy kind of feel to it. It reminds of some of the NANE material. Again, this is a song that bores me a little bit. It sounds a bit forced to my ears.

Our White Noise: Vintage Therapy?!! It rocks hard and has a wonderful chorus. The lyrics are funny and sad at the same time, ‘Flowers mark the spot where this world shut you up.’ Fantastic!

Private Nobody: This song is an ugly beast, but it’s pretty good. It sounds frantic and hysterical, which fits the subject of the lyrics well.

Rain Hits Concrete: A catchy and simple song, but I think it could have been executed better. I don’t think the instruments blend together well. It sounds a bit shaky and fragile. Especially in this song you can’t help noticing that the drums are drowned out by the guitar in the chorus. It kills the urgency that the song would otherwise suggest.

Fear Of God: This song has grown on me. It’s probably one of the heaviest Therapy? songs to date. It’s not a stroke of genius, but it makes you wanna get drunk and headbang:D

Heart Beat Hits: This is actually one of my faves from the album. The verses are a bit peculiar, but it’s a nice contrast to the other parts of the song. I don’t really know why this song tickles my fancy.. but hey.. that’s the the magic of music, right?

Walk Through The Darkness: Meh.. I don’t mind the so-called “up-lifting” tracks, but this song doesn’t do anything for me at all. Therapy? have written much better pop songs. At least, that’s how I feel about it right now.

Just got it yesterday, played it on my girlfriends’ discman and i’m loving it. Andy’s singing isnt as manic as it was on Never Apologise Never Explain which disappoints me slighlty, put instrumentally this seems like a very strong album. Liking the return to pop sensibility, the album is a bit more accessible than others. It seems like the best Spitfire album yet, a distillation of the best bits of HA and NANE. The change from Outro to Sprung blew my ears off, i think the band are mixing it up a little in terms of their approach to songwriting which bodes well. Walk through Darkness sounds like a contender for potential single. Overall, 9/10.

OCFA finally arrived yesterday in the mail, so I promptly put it on the Stereo to check it out.

The first thing i felt was that the album’s production is not really to my liking. I am a bass player and love the sound of bass (and mikehellx, your basslines are perfect), but the whole thing seems to have too much bass on it, it basically distorts everything else, and the guitars are nice, but a bit too prominent. I mean I can’t hear Neil’s wonderful drumming sometimes. It’s worst on Into the light, I mean I can’t make out the drums nor the guitars, it’s just one big grooving distorted mess.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the songs, well some of them anyway, most will grow on me i’m sure, but I somehow don’t feel the album is as special as every T? album and single was when I put them on (yes, that does include Shameless, which has one of the best lyrical content and great musical content too). And I have all albums and singles except Bad Mother (anyone can help me out on that one) and the RHC EP, cos the US iTunes store does not have it yet.

All in all this seems to be a well pieced-together album, with songs that are put together by the book. I somehow miss the unpredictability of the Babyteeth era, the clean sound of the Troublegum era, the lyrics like on Infernal Love/Shameless and the power of HA/NANE.

Oh, and am I the only one who thinks (gosh, never thought I would say this) that T? actually managed to record a boring, shit song? Yes, Dopamine, Seratonin, Adrenalin. I keep skipping it.

Might be a bit negative, but I still listen to it all the time, just to get into it more.

I have listen to it all of this week. Sprung is a good spearhead for the rest of the album. It has grown on me a lot, my favourite at the moment is Dopamine, Seratonine, And Adrenaline - especially the verses. Sounds really good loud on headphones, as does most Therapy? songs.

Well done guys :D

PS - When I bought the album at Virgin on Oxford Street on Monday I looked for New Releases and the Metal section and still couldn’t find it! Had to get a member of staff to help me. In my opinion, it should have been plastered all over the place instead of the likes of Shayne Ward etc…

Gotta agree with you there; considering it the title track really, it’s really meandering and quite dull…

I don’t understand what DSA is trying to say - kinda makes the chorus redundant for me…

Been listening to this album every day since its release and it I still love it dispite the idea of having a clean production sound and accessible choruses - not that any of this has ever bothered me anyway. I’m just happy and proud that Therapy? are still releasing records to this day :)

Maybe it needs a few years to grow on me, like Semi-Detached did.

Deluded Son, Into The Light, DSA, Heart Beat Hits and Walk Through Darkness are the songs I don’t skip.

Must admit that any earlier enthusiasm I had for OCFA is wearing off. I’m now skipping more tracks than I though possible with a T? CD! The overly repetitive choruses are doing my nut! Some of the music is awesome but there is so much which lets it down IMHO :(

Could have been great with a bit more thought into lyrics but some just go on too too long!

it’s just so uninspiring, where has the experimental t? gone? almost all of the songs are in the same boring mid-tempo.. ?

Finally got the album this morning and after my first listen I have to agree with the above, I’m hoping it’s a grower, but most of the tracks that I hadn’t already heard like mentioned, seem to fit into the mid-tempo range, except Deluded Son. For Me Sprung, Rain Hits Concrete, DSA
are excellent but wanted a few more of these sort of tracks.!

Well, “Sprung” is one of the best song they have ever done! this chorus shakes my bones… (won’t believe me anyhow… woooaw :D)

deluded son… this Opening Riff… it’s like a bit from Stainds “Open Your Eyes”…

“Our white noise”, “pvt nobody”, “rain hits concrete” just rock… this mantra -> can you feel it - is just a killer…

T? has done very good work. they are gettin’ better and better. And (as mentionend here in this thread) the voices are the best ever…!

I got it on wednesday. I can’t give you my full opinion on it yet (I am also listening to the new Pearl Jam, man this makes me sound so 90’s), but what I can tell is that it certainly won’t become my favorite Therapy? album. I can’t imagine that.

The album sounds damn attractive though. Except from very few parts the production is great on this one. I listened to it in the car yesterday, and it felt amazing.

As for the songs, I don’t have anything against one-line choruses. Some of Therapy’s most famous songs have that. But to me it seems that this album has too many of them. It’s the sheer quantity and length of these choruses that drag it down a little. That said, I could live wihtout the “Into the Light” chorus, “Lose It All” and “Private Nobody” could also need some more in that area. It is a shame, because I like the verses and the instruments.

Some songs work incredibly well, even with one-line choruses. Sprung, Deluded Son, DSA, Unconsoled, Our White Noise, Raiun Hits Concrete Fear of God…yep, those are my favorites right now.

I don’t understand the hate Heart Beat Hits is getting. It is a decent song.

I enjoy listenig to a Therapy? album that is more open and melodic. While I enjoy NANE, the style of OCFA is a good choice. It’s so cool, that they are always working on their style.

Walk Through Darkness is the song I can totally do without, though. The well made Outro redeems it a tiny bit, but it comes across as standard punk lala. As did the last song on NANE.

Anyway, I enjoy listening to it, and thank God that Therapy? is still making good music.

That’s right Troublegum’s slapped a vrey big number among us. It is a killer album, as you said.
However, all their following albums are in their own evolution. Fortunately THERAPY? evolute with their own music. There are some bands who play every time the same kind of riff with the same sound for 10 years - so what do you think of that ?
Seriously it’s cool for THERAPY?.
I was just drawing a parallel of THERAPY? and The Cure ; indeed about The Cure when they played until ‘Pornography’, nobody didn’t use to tell some negative things of them. Trom ‘The Top’ and for each of their new album, there is still people who will say something like “it’s Ok, but it’s not like Pornography”. The reason is : they go on to evolute themselves.
Maybe, I dare to believe it it’s absolutly the same for THERAPY? : They played a huge album, I mean Troublegum (Infernal love is in the same register too), and they go on to evolute themselves

From this morning I’m listenig to ‘One Cure Fits All’, ‘Never Apologise Never Explain’, ‘Suicide Pact - You First (is playing now)’

Go on guys. get the feeling.
