HELLO/GOODBYE FROM GRAHAM!!

#

Started by graham hopkins

hello there everyone. i deciced to write a little note(its rather long actually!) just to explain a few things and to thank you all for the kind messages i just read on the message board.
as you may know, i left the band just before christmas. it really wasnt an easy decision to make. the last 6 years of my life have been the best ever. i met 3 people who i grew to love dearly, we had the best time. i could not belive it when i joined the band first. i thought i might get alot of slack as i was following in fyfes footsteps, but i was really greatful of the support that people gave me. i cant really put into words the excitment i felt when i joined the band. the general buzz of being in the band was amazing. the lads and the crew made me feel so comfortable. the gigs were amazing. the festivals blew my mind. i met some of my biggest heros and influences along the way.i lived nearly all of my childhood ambitions.
making all 3 albums was a great experience.i love all 3 for different reasons, but if you really wanna know, i reckon SP-YF is my favourite. there was a great feeling of freshness around us when we made that!! anyway,we had alot of time off last year after recording SHAMELESS. in that time i did alot of other things, playing with different people and recording my own songs. i enjoyed this so much i did some shows under the band name HOPPER. it was a competely different thing to playing drums with THERAPY?,it was strange.
when i went back to playing with THERAPY? i have to be honest and say my heart just wasnt in it. i felt kind of removed from what the 3 lads were into and what i was into.it sounds like a cliche to say musical differences, but i reckon thats what part of it is.
a big factor came when a good friend of mine, mic, had an accident. he fell in holland at the end of november and died later from head injuries.it all happened when we were near the end of the tour. my head was wrecked. i was flying back and forth from shows to home. the whole thing made me realise how short life is, and how you never really know whats around the next corner. i had been thinking about jumping ship for a while and this just sort of made me do it.
so, things are good. im feeling good about what i did. as i said, i had the best 6 years of my life. people just grow out of things. you dont neseseraly have to leave a band because things are sour.i think the last tour i did with the band was the best fun we ever had. we’ve all talked, things are great between us. i love andy, martin and michael. i really really wish them all the best in the future.
i want to thank all of the people ive met, talked to,hung out with along the way. it was such fun. thankyou for bein cool!
i dont know what else to say really. sorry for yackin off. thanks for reading this. hope we might meet somewhere along the way!
im busy doing my HOPPER thing at the moment and also playing drums with a great new irish singer/songwriter called GEMMA HAYES and a great guy called DAVID KITT. so if you see those names anywhere, come and say hi! ill be in touch!!
thankyou again…
love and respect… GRAHAM xxxxxxxx

i just want to say thanks, Graham, for putting on a great performance in London a few hours after you had received the sad news about your friend. i don’t think anyone would have resented you deciding not to play that night, but you did, and it rocked. cheers again.

Thank you very much Graham for the kind words! I guess it makes us happier to get used that you ‘left’ us. I was more suprised that you left, somehow you seemed to be the perfect drummer after Fyfe because you were more a ‘band person’ than he was…

Take care Hoppy and I hope that you keep us informed of your career.

Graham, me and my boyfriend Joel (who was not my boyfriend then!) interviewed you (along with the rest of Therapy?, if that was not already clear!) with some other fans for Kerrang!, somewhere around the end of October in 1998. I don’t remember a hell of a lot about it coz the whole thing was a bit much for me to get my head around, but I DO remember, and have photographic evidence, of you with Joel sitting on your lap. I somehow feel that this has provided the two of us with a special bond.

You’re obviously a wicked bloke and I hope you carry on doing the stuff that makes you smile the most. Try to come to Glastonbury this year as I’m going, I’ll meet you Thursday at 6pm by Jungle Juice just next to the Pyramid Stage, coz that’s the only landmark I can remember. I’ll be the one with the bunch of flowers. Okay so that’s not gonna happen.

Love, peace and reee-speck! xxx
