Renew For Freedom - RE: ID Cards

#

Started by KJ Gould

This might interest people who are concerned about the ID Card situation in the UK. The NO2ID campaign ahev set up a site and factsheet about renewing your passport this May can keep you clear of the ID Card for 10 years (the length of the passport validity.)

Check out this site, and consider renewing your passport in May.

I think http://www.no2id.net will have all the answers you may want. Or at least answers to help their side of the argument.

I thought this was amusing

I did a 5000 word dissertation in my final year at school on ID cards. It was some pretty interesting research.

we´ve had id cards over here in spain for ages now…and the truth is they´re not that bad. There´s only basic information on it, and there are ways to not give the goverment anymore than that. Medical info is on a different card (that you don´t need to get if you don´t use public health anyway). All the info they´ve got is basicly all the stuff that they would have anyway in different departments just put into one big database.
But thats over here. From what I´ve seen and heard, thats not what the british goverment is planning…jeje

The government are trying to connect it to their anti terrorism bill.

Which is ridiculous. Did an identity card prevent the Madrid bombings? It wont stop anyone with intent.

Not only that but some people reckon it will make fraud and identity theft more likely due to having more of you information in one place. If thetre’s a blackmarket for passports and other documents, you can bet there’ll be one for ID cards that can trick sensors and cause problems.

Scary thing about all this is that various government departments have got my NI number wrong over the years. More than once.
What happens if they get my ID card details wrong?

Bunch of nobs.
