Stoner rock

#

Started by Theng

Since a year or so I’ve been really into Doomrock/stonerrock/psychedelic rock whatever the name. I was wondering if there are any other T? fans that dig it too or is it just all ‘tallica and Indierock over here?

I like a bit of stoner rock…don’t have loads but I’m a big fan of Kyuss and I’ve seen Cathedral a few times.

I’d class Clutch as Stoner rock, ‘cos they’ve got that “groove” going on, if you know what I mean.

Check out Dead Meadow.

By the way, on their Feathers album, half the songs are named after HP Lovecraft stories. So now you know ;)

Thinking about going to it.
I have their first album. which is pretty good. Real old style 70’s stoner rock. Completely different to Carcass.

I also love KYUSS(who doesn’t), THE OBSSESSED, FU MANCHU,
CATHEDRAL, and a load of others…

I always put on a Doomy, Stoner CD when I don’t know what I want to listen to. Don’t know why! It’s just a safe option. Heavy but with a good groove and a little wierd and different to the normal stuff I’d listen to regularly.

I’m a bit fan of the old stoner.

Kyuss is a must, Nebula are great Fu Manchu are cool but can be a bit dull as some of there stuff sounds the same. Unida are also one of my favourite, Orange Goblin, slo burn and hermano also great. Che are worth checking out and a lot of the stuff on the man’s ruin label was good like Men of Porn. Spiritual Beggars stuff is very good quite 70’s in style and sound.

all an influence on my band.

I wonder if he’s been lying about being clean all those years? Probably he’s going to excuse himself with saying that he took just one shot for old times sake and that his body couldn’t take it no more or something like that.

Other personal stoner/doom/psych faves of mine are
High on Fire,
Hidden Hand
Mannhai,
Kingston Wall
Dozer,
Los Natas
Ufomammut
Yob (this is fucking massive)

… but I like it

I started this thread coz in this part of the forum people seem to be talking about bands that I am either unfamiliar with or don’t care about. So I was wondering if somebody else liked the bands I do (eg Kyuss, Monster Magnet,…) or that I was totally Isolated with my blend of musical tastes. I’m getting a relieved feeling after reading some of the replies.

If you want to have a laugh with subgenres go check wikipedia I think every band in the world has entered a Wiki for their personal appreciation of the music they play. Especially in metal it is ludicrous.

dont think they’d be classed as stoner rock as they are ridicoulously heavy but nonetheless they rule :)

Is this the project where Phil called himself “ANTON CROWLEY”, and he just plays guitar. No vocals.

.
