I don’t like the production.
It just sounds, I don’t know… to soft to me. Like that Ferreira guy just stopped somewhere in the production/mixing process without finishing it…
That guy should’ve add some power to the T?-threepiece instead of leaving them barenaked in the studio.
The songs have potential (in fact, when trying to listen straight through the crappy production, I can hear the usual T? quality)and with a troublegum-a-like production it could be a killer of an album.
I bought it anyway, I love them guys.
Maybe after a few plays I’ll get to like it…
Probably I’ve got it all wrong and I suck.

personally I’m a little disapointed with the album. High Anxiety and NANE were such strong albums that this one just seems.. well a little bland. I never thought I’d say that about a T? album.

After listening to it now for a few times, there are only a few tracks that keep my attention (Sprung, Unconsoled) with the rest beeing somewhere between meaningless and awfull. It may not be as bad as Shameless, but it’s somewhere between that and Semi-Detached and theresore is their third weakest album for me at the moment.

Really? I love playing it loud on the stereo. I play it loud on the headphones, too, though.

I love the heavy sound and the riffs are just brilliant as ever. Neil sometimes makes me think of Fyfe and Andy’s voice is great. He also does some really good backing vocals. Michael’s bass line in Unconsoled simply genious.
Though not their best album, I think it’s a worthy follow-up for NANE. I’m very happy with it, especially when it’s played loud on an oldfashioned stereo set :D

A subwoofer definately helps, you suddenly pick up all these driving lows that were missing.

Nah, what I was saying that there’s too much bass on it in the first place. It’s all droning without a subwoofer.

After listening to NANE after OCFA, I can clearly see how better T? are with a producer such as Pedro. The songs sound more complete and less like demos, and I think the money and time spent on OCFA really has paid off. While the songs don’t have the lunacy of NANE, they are catchier, stronger and have grown on me a lot over the last week. On my first few listens I wasn’t sure, but now I think that it has all come together after HA and NANE which had some filler tracks. The backing vocals on OCFA are very notable, most impressive backing vocals since SPYF.

a.) It’s spelled Genius.
b.) I don’t understand when people compliment bass lines when they are just the guitar riff underneath. If it was something that complimented the main riff then sure. On Unconsoled - its pretty much the main riff.

By ‘main riff’, you actually mean ‘guitar riff’, right? Since 3ddo is a bassist, you’d kind of expect him to see it from the bassists point of view. Why shouldn’t he?

The CD arrived yesterday - hats off to Fading Ways for getting it sent to Oz than less than a week!
Loving the shit out of it, basically - I haven’t gotten into all the songs yet (So far Unconsoled, Lose It All and Private Nobody are eluding me a little. They’re great songs though, and I suspect they’ll sneak up on me and slap me for doubting them sometime in the next few days). Highlights for me after a day and a half are Sprung, Deluded Son (What a friggin’ chorus!), DSA & Walk Through Darkness.
Seriously, the whole album is class, to my ears the melody of HA meeting NANE’s heaviness. Between this and the new Tool I forecast a weekend of ROCK!

a) You’re pedantic.
b) Michael wrote the ‘main riff’, as you call it, for Unconsoled (check Andy’s stories behind the track). Therefore, his bass part is the ‘main riff’, and the guitar is secondary.
How do you like them apples?

It is just lacking songs in my opinion.
A real pity after the brilliance of HA and NANE.
Still, can’t please all of the people all of the time.

I think ocfa is one of the best t? albums and definately the best in lots of years. it’s got its own sound like every other t? album and although it doesn’t really have any stand out songs, it’s tight as hell and there is not even one song i want to skip. i like andy’s vocals (which i didn’t in the last couple of albums) and neil’s drumming is the best i’ve heard of him so far, it’s simply great. the production is decent, i think you can hear all the little details that make a song better and that’s important. every song has a bit that i really like and gets me hooked. if i were to describe how this album sounds i’d say it’s a mix of troublegum, semi detached and nane, with some new elements ofcourse.
all in all i wanna say a big thank you to the boys for delivering to us such a great album… i just hope it will get the recognition it deserves, so let’s all help. p.s. i didnt understand why some people in here don’t like it. but i guess these must be the ones who thought shameless and high anxiety were great :P (no offence)
