THERAPY? naming their songs…

#

Started by suicidalmaniac

I hoped it would never come to this, but I realized THERAPY? started naming their song’s names as the their chorus lines. Oh my, oh my, oh my… wondering what would it look like if they recorded BABYTEETH, PLEASURE DEATH and NURSE nowadays. Probably something like this:

BABYTEETH would look something like this:

MEAT ABSTRACT = FREEDOM
SKYWARD = SKYWARD
PUNISHMENT KISS = EVERY DAY
ANIMAL BONES = ANIMAL BONES
LOSER COP = LOSER COP
INNOCENT X = DONE NOTHING WRONG
DANCIN’ WITH MANSON = GET HIM OUT

PLEASURE DEATH would look something like this:

SKINNING PIT = LOVE YOU EVERY DAY
FANTASY BAG = I CAN’T WAIT TO GET AWAY
SHIT KICKER = YOU ARE NOTHING
PRISON BREAKER = HANGING ON THE PHONE
D.L.C. = D.L.C.
POTATO JUNKIE = JAMES JOYCE (IS F**KING MY SISTER)

NURSE would look something like this:

NAUSEA = DON’T WANNA FEEL ANY MORE
TEETHGRINDER = TEETHGRINDER
DISGRACELANDS = FORGET COLUMBUS (LOST YOUR CULTURE)
ACCELERATOR = ACCELERATE
NECK FREAK = I’M FUCKED
PERVERSONALITY = MY HATE
GONE = HANG ON, IT’S GONE
ZIPLESS = I DON’T HATE YOU (I JUST WANT YOU)
DEEP SLEEP = A SLEEPY HEAD
HYPERMANIA = ARE YOU REAL? IS THIS REAL?

:D

Troublegum would be:

1 The Knives
2 I’ve Got Nothing To Do
3 Jesus Without The Suffering
4 Stop It You’re Killing Me
5 Going Nowhere
6 I Think I’ve Gone Insane (I Can’t Remember My Own Name)
7 I’m On My Own
8 Trigger Inside
9 Christ Sin Revealed (So That You Know)
10 Isolation
11 You Turn And Face The Strange
12 Femination Generation
13 I’ve Seen You Without Me
14 I’m In Hell And I’m Alone

They really do hardly ever mention the song titles!

Yeah — but I was thinking not of just using other lyrics in the song — but naming a song with words that aren’t in the song at all… e.g. “Screamager” is not in the lyrics of said song…

i remember an ‘In The Dock’ with Michael for RAW magazine when Troublegum came out and he said Jesus without the suffering wouldn’t make a very good song title, thats why they invented fun titles for all their songs! Pretty cool! So what happened!! :)

Actually, I think HIGH-ANXIETY could look something like this (as noted, THERAPY? rarely named with their tracks according to chorus or whatsoever, like; OPAL MANTRA, BRAINSAW, etc.):

HEY SATAN YOU ROCK = 666
WHO KNOWS = DESPERATO
STAND IN LINE = Q
NOBODY HERE BUT US = ME VS. YOU PT.2
WATCH YOU GO = STRIKE A MATCH
IF IT KILLS ME = GOD-LIKE
NOT IN ANY NAME = CANNON FODDER
MY VOODOO DOLL = ORBRITUAL
LIMBO = WHERE THE NAMES HAVE NO NAMES
LAST BLAST = KISS IT GOODBYE
RUST = SALVAGED & RECYCLED
NEVER ENDING = END ME

Ha hah… yeah, I got the feeling that Fyfe has got a lot with song naming then, as well as weird samples, as he was really into the whole movie culture, eh?

Oh well, times change. For better or for worse. Cheers!

What’s your favorite songtitle by Therapy?, by the way?

Mine’s “Stop It! You’re Killing Me” right now. I love it how this line fits in the chorus. Perfection.

Shouldn’t that be ‘It’s all that you know’… otherwise my cover version is wrong :(

Correct, it says so in the booklet and in the discography section. I always sang it that way as well. ;)
