Advice for a newbie?

#

Started by unfit

Hey there everyone. See this is the thing, i’ve got a guitar but i don’t have a clue how to read the various tabs that are out there. Any advice on how to go about learning how to read them?

I’ve tried a couple of ways but i just can’t seem to get it right and i’ve got a really, really long trip in front of me where i’ll be bored out of my skull so i’ve got plenty of time to practice ;)

Any advice would be helpful!

Try having a browse through those - its quite easy once you get the hang of it (reading tab that is, playing depends on your ability)

Thanks for the links, i’ll check it out tonight after work.

I just had another thought though - are there any Therapy?
songs that are easier to get started on when you’re new to it?

Knives (except solo) Gone, Diane, The Boy’s Asleep and Hey Satan-You Rock… easy enough I think.

Try: http://www.mxtabs.net or http://www.ultimate-guitar.com
You should find some tabs there, Therapy? and others if that helps?

Except the obvious troubles of having to downtune when you’re not used to it, invariably with the set of .9s that came with your guitar.

Also, disgracelands is pretty easy, and good for practice when you’re starting.

This man knows…for god’s sake change the strings on your guitar if it’s new…and get a reputable brand, like GHS or Ernie Ball or something; the strings that are put on new guitars can ONLY be made of tin foil at best…

My money is on Disgracelands, Die Laughing , and maybe some of the easy ones from Infernal Love like Bowels of Love, Moment of Clarity. Oh and the main riff in Don’t Expect Roses is pretty simple.

Joe.
