What’s your favourite antihollywood movie?

#

Started by Zorn

This SHOULD be a thread for art films, foreign films… which I love.

BUT my favourite ‘non-conformist’ movie would have to be ‘Philadelphia’ - what a fantastic film.

I know it’s Hollywood - but at least they took a risk.

No, I’m not gay, but if you’ve watched the film, you’ll know that doesn’t matter.

Any favourite independent movies, people?

My own is Donno Darko; what a film.

Mullholland Drive is the ultimate anti-Hollywood movie because it shows the damage Hollywood can do to people.

L’appartement… terrific film with Vincent Cassel and Monica Belluci

La jetée… an early version of “Twelve Monkeys”. This one is too hard to describe. You need to see it. It’s absolutely breathtaking.

What is Anti-Hollywood?

Lets see…

Trainspotting, The Virgin Suicides, Human Traffic, The Acid House, Bullet Boy, Green Street (the fact that no major film distrubter in the States wanted it), Kidulthood (just came out on DVD, a great film, and Britain’s answer to Kids), City of God…there’s loads of films to cover the crap that Hollywood comes out with.

There’s stuff like Star Wars (which George Lucas made outside the system), Raiders of the Lost Ark (Spielberg has long since lost it)and my personal fave Dead Poet Society…just a few films I do like from the so called great film industry.

Both of them are films that stay with you long after you see them.
