I got this nice example of a banned Heather Nova(!) video on MTV u.k. because she was tightrope walking. :-(
Come on!
It gave a bad example to chidlren and they might try it at home.

As for music influencing violence. That’s bullshit. For every record that fucked someone up, there are 1000 that make someone feel better.
It’s a lame excuse. Most people are far gone already, or had a twisted childhood. They better ban some guns first.

The stupidest example of this is Radiohead’s Paranoid Android video. The cute little nipples of the mermaids are censored, the men who chops of all his arms and legs is fully watchable. I dunno if this was done on purpose by radiohead themselves, otherwise…it’s rediculous!

There´s no psychological explanation, that there is a direct connection between “aggressive” computer games and a murder.

Perhaps the transition from beeing a normal person to kill other people develops faster.

But brutality in films and games is not “the root of all evil”.

The whole political discussion is senseless, because the government just forbids things, and don´t try to help kids with psycho-illnesses.

It just sucks…

all this reminds me of a quote from the film scream, something like ‘horror movies dont create serial killers, they just make serial killers more creative’

I think there’s a link between what SOME people see (on TV, in mags etc) and what they do. Advertising proves this.
I play video games and have never wanted to go and kill.
I might see some arse in the street and feel like hurting them (but don’t). TV hasn’t made me do it I don’t think (but how do I know it hasn’t).

I think that out of 100,000 people who play a violent game, 1 person might be affected. Would something else have triggered them off anyway. I think so too. Providing games are rated for certain age groups, I think the current laws in the UK (I don’t know about the rest of the world) are pretty much OK. Providing they’re enforced.

Ban all guns though. Everywhere. For all countries, armies whatever.
Something to aim for.

Lol, they banned them because the murderer heard them. That`s pathetic. They show Blade 2 previews etc. with a lot of violence.

Most of the media totally failed to analyse it. The police profilers found out that there was kind of a “cold climate” in the family..

I don’t know much about what happened in Erfurt but to blame the media / entertainment industry for any murder is ridiculous. If you kill someone (or yourself) then you are wholly responsible for that action. Using music as a scapegoat for your behaviour is outrageous.

Theyr tried to blame Jamie Bulger’s murder on Childsplay 3. I think you’ve got to be seriously sick in the head to do what was done to him and watching a film isn’t going to make much of a difference to you in the psycho stakes.

The guy maybe had the urge to go beserk, but I’d rather see him storming the building with a shitty knife than with a riffle. The NRA are a bunch of retarded rednecks. They should build a huge concrete wall around their homes, then they’re safe.

Title: What happened in Erfurt…

I see some people asking this question…
In Erfurt a 19 year old student killed 18 or 19 people on his school, mostly teachers and I thought 2 students. He didn’t pass has exams for 2 times and was banned from that school for that reason.
He was a member of 2 shooting-schools and listened to music like Slipknot.
I think Irishlady (Mareike) can tell more about this ‘cause she’s from Erfurt.

if it was like the media says, almost every male t? fan could be a possible raper, because almost everyone loves “diane”.

the thing in erfurt was one of the worst things i can think of. seeing these things happen in usa with their gunrights is one thing, but seeing it happen in your own country really makes you see what a sick world this is these days. i think if you’re a fragile person, your “bloodlust” can be pushed up by playing these games, but fior normal people it’s just a game, that’s it.
i myself have resident evil, a few terantino movies and listen to agressive music, but i’m very close to a pacifist. i don’t think everybody who gets has a bad education and is treated like shit at home is a potential serialkiller. i don’t think everybody who watches brutal movies or plays violent games is a potential serialkiller. and i don’t think enery person who has a gun is a potential serial killer, but if it all comes together, it’s no suprise that a person just looses it.

Title: erfurt

i am from erfurt, and although i`m just here for the weekends ( as i study somewhere else ) i simply love this town.
what happened in the school ( see what iris wrote ) definately changed our city.
a good friend of mine went to that school and half of her teachers are dead now.
a friend of my dad should have been at the school that day, but she couldn`t come as her son broke his arm that day.
so another teacher went for her and was killed…

as i study psychology i can tell you that aggressive music and evil games are not the CAUSE or reason of things like they happened here. there are no scientific proofs for it.
there are many factors you have to consider when you ask yourself why this guy did it. ( like family-situation, friends… )
luckily not everyone who plays those games gets a gun and shoots people!
well, that´s just what i wanted to tell you about that topic.
