Top five for being scary, or for being good films? Hey… I’ll do both.

Scary…

1. Ringu
2. Ringu 2
3. Audition
4. Ringu 0
5. The Grudge

Although I haven’t yet seen the last 2 on that list… I’m presuming. Asian cinema does scary like nothing else- they’re far better than their western equivalent. Although the Silent Hill games are still far scarier than any of these. In saying that… as far as being good movies…

1. The Devil’s Rejects
2. Cannibal Holocaust
3. Ichi the Killer
4. Dawn of the Dead
5. Hellraiser

I’ve just realised I’ve already posted a slightly different version of exactly the same thing there… I thought I’d done it before, but on a different message board somewhere… funny how the choices vary slightly this time round. Ha.

As horror goes - i recon the (original) Omen takes some beating… its one of the few films where evil kicks arse all the way through, and not in a tongue-in-cheek way

I am aware that not a lot of these are horror films, but they all scare the shit outta me!

What are the odds on the remake being a pile of shite?

Apparently, its not supposed to be a bad film, its just not supposed to stand up to the original… which it would inevitably have to for it to be any good.

So by all accounts it is supposed to be a bit pointless. I’ll be waiting for it on DVD, there is no way it warrants a trip to the cinema.

I’m not into all this re-make stuff, that said, Dawn of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were reasonable.

Satan’s Lot?

Do you mean Salam’s Lot, the Stephen King movie adaptation of Jerusalam’s lot?

You know, with the vampires?

I’m currently reading the book just so I can rant about how unfaithful the adaption is later on.

It wasn’t, pretty boring really…shame

The original was much better, but that’s because you had James Mason “That’s it Shaman, Throw away the cross…face the master..” classic.

I agree it wasn’t failthful to the book, but still a good mini-series.

I just saw on VH-1 this weekend the main kid from it, apparently he was a big deal for a bit in the 70s, then became a crack addict, and of course now has found the lord. Pretty funny stuff

The remake isn’t great - it was a two part made-for-tv affair.

Mr Barlow was nowhere near as good as the original - I belive this time he was played by Rutger Hauer…

Salem’s Lot is a terribly bad film, which makes it kinda funny. Its not as bad/good as Spookies or… damn what’s that other one. CKY made a t-shirt of it called ‘Amber Face’… dammit. Weird blob monster with loads of teeth. Nope… it’s gone.
