Signatures and guidelines

#

Started by soul doubt (an)

Reading on this messageboards is getting quite annoying from time to time. In some cases it’s hard to tell where the post ends and where the signature starts…
A while ago I had to count back maximum 2 lines from the bottomline of a post to come accros a line that indecates the beginning of someone’s signature, everyting above that line could be seen as a post… Nowadays it’s hard to find that line…
Guidelines and anarchy don’t seem to get along very well… For example, the guidelines say: “Your (optional) signature can be up to two lines (approx. 220 characters).”

Not to point my finger at anyone, but this signature for example is surely in violation with the guidelines:

[“I love this trend of using quotes as signatures! Go on, i DARE someone to use this!” - Taunty Dan, 25/5/06

There’s Lord Dan Ot Tauntington, he’s so posh he even gets out of the bath to take a shit! - Caffeinebomb (8/6/06)

“I done did the dirty !” - Squall - 26/5/06

“cheers” - Punkwak - after everything he says!]

That’s 9 lines, and exactly 317 characters!!!
Hooch, René, am I allowed to violate the guidelines as well now?

Wow, that seems to have been solved remarkable amicably and sensibly. Well done all. Perhaps I ought to remove my bespoke signature service

Well, you could’ve quoted other people’s signatures too, couldn’t you?

Thanks for bringing this up, soul doubt.

There is no reliable way to automatically enforce the guideline for signatures being up to two lines at the moment. We have therefore decided to decrease the maximum signature length to 100 characters on a single line - something which can be enforced automatically.

All signatures that are longer than one line are still visible right now, but if you change it from this day forward, it will be cut off after the first line.

We kindly ask everyone with multi-line signatures to go to their edit profile page, and change it to a single line.

In about two weeks from now, any remaining multi-line singatures will be edited back to one line by us.

The guidelineshave been changed accordingly.

We hope you understand our decision :-)
