well, the site won’t open, but i think putting up the complete albums to download ain’t such a great thing. b-sides, demos and liveclips are o.k. for me, ‘cause you can’t get them everywhere like the albums.

not only does the site have every t? song mp3ed, it also has this written at the top of the page:

And one more thing you should know about: - that’s not my mp3s.
That’s all coz some kind’a’hacker hacked my page and uploaded ‘em here.
Hmmm… well you sure don’d believe that :-)
And if you realy care about all that copyrighted CRAP … well - FUCK YOU !!!!!!!!

(if you can’t get into the page, go to: http://bbs.kursk.ru/mad/ then click on the t? icon, then on “sounds”)

That’s a good question. I guess the whole “let’s-not-care-about-copyrights” -thingy is a two-edged sword. I think it’s great to have a place where it’s all on display and free and whatever, but still, a lot of people, especially the record company lawyers, think you’re pissing in their punchbowl. The artists should be the ones to decide, but it’s not a perfect world, is it. I’m not sure what Russian legislation says about copyright infringments (kill me if I spelled that wrong) so I’ll shut up about the legal issues.

That “And one more thing…” -statement, it’s pure genius ;)

well you can get any of those songs from AudioGalaxy, so i guess there really is no difference…

but i like Galos’s idea: ask the band if it’s ok… that way you won’t have the put the “fuck you” message (although it’s pretty funny)…

Then what is all this thread about?
People who like their music will support them and buy CD’s, and those who think that t? is crap won’t do it anyway. As fo Russia… the only officialy released T? albums here are Shameless and Semi-Detached, to find the other stuff here is quite a quest. T? in Russia is something forgotten in 90’s… it’s a pity.
As for legal issues, law is certainly law, but what is all that crap about, when I can easily go and buy any cd/dvd with any content, any microsoft/adobe/e.t.c. software for the price of an ice-cream. So it’s only my heart’s choise to pay or not for music and how much.
A think T? is best I’ve ever heard so I support them as I can. As for the others … hmm… let them choose.

i don’t care if someone thinks it’s his holy quest to make all t?songs available to everyone for free, i just think if you do that, you screw the band, and that’s got nothing to do with beeing a fan in my opinion.

and the point about the people who care about t? will buy there records is absolute crap. if you aren’t a t? fan, why would you go to a t?-fanpage to dowload there songs?

I guess it’s hard to say anything if you don’t know the situation there. Some people (again the company lawyers) think it’s fucked up. From the consumer’s point of view it’s the best thing since bread came sliced (I just remembered I forgot R.E.M. from the bands I listen to -post). I’ve never bought any pirate CD’s or programs from Russia (probably since I haven’t been there for a while), but I know it’s no wonder some people do. If someone has an answer to what should be done about this case, and not necessarily in Russia, the forum is open for suggestions.

I guess this thread is about how valuable your site is, since it looks good and seems to have a bunch of information (though in Russian but nevertheless).

I read in some interview that they’re not really ok with mp3’s of the album stuff on the Internet. Why else did they remove a lot of mp3’s from Audiogalaxy? I guess they’re ok about live stuff and b-sides though. Also, I think that real fans buy the stuff, rather than download it.

Hadn’t seen that one before. Well, at least I’d feel uncomfortable paying for MP3’s. If someone has heard of a service that sells them and makes a nice profit, tell me. Or don’t.

Paying for mp3 is just too funny. Most of it sounds so crap, eventually there will be no more cd’s in stores left I guess.

Check out “www.emusic.com”.
Pay $15.00 a month for 3 months, or $10.00 a month for 12 months, and you can download as many mp3’s as you like. They have back catalogues from hundreds of record labels.

All types of genres.
A lot of shite bands, but still a load of cool stuff, also!!!

Nice idea. Thanks a lot the link. And yes, there are a load of good or at least interesting bands (Slayer! Manowar! Napalm Death!)

But my question is that do they make a profit out of it? I’ve heard of a number of services that sell MP3’s (though they’re mostly based on ordering one song at a time) but none of them work because they don’t get much cash out of it.

Still, I’ll have to take back my words for this a bit. Selling MP3’s might not be the stupidest idea ever. This kind of service could work if there wouldn’t be an AudioGalaxy or WinMX or Gnutella or whatever. $10 a month isn’t much if you like music and have bandwidth. This will of course never replace CD’s but could be a good alternative.
